    Show me your ANVIL

Topic is kinda stale, so since it's not closed, I'll add a modest revival post. This was my Grandad Charlie Scheuermann's anvil from the Silver Ridge Ranch (cattle and olives; several miles north of Oroville, CA) which he managed from the 1920's into the 1970's. I spent a lot of time there...

    Just acquired a Hay-Budden anvil

I got it cleaned-up fairly well - brass wire wheel, then a coat of dry lube for now. In trying to decipher the SN, the "mystery" initial marking (before the clear-enough "9494") appears it cannot be an "A" prefix. Perhaps a "2"? Also, is the appearance of the base construction reveal anything...

    Just acquired a Hay-Budden anvil

I'll be attaching a few more photos shortly, but first, a bit about my neighbor whose widow sold me the anvil: Bob (and later, wife/widow Linda) lived on our street since the mid-1970s. He was a number of years older than me, and a shop teacher at my old high school, though our times there did...

    Just acquired a Hay-Budden anvil

I want to get his posted to assist with understanding what I have; a bit later I will post the backstory to honor the man who owned it - my longtime neighbor Bob Fisher. Thus far I think what I have is a 74lb (a guess from the stamping - I haven't weighed it yet) H-B, 3 "handling holes", SN#...

detached garage, mid-century redo, wall layers questions

So before I start on the house make-over, I want to redo my circa 1955 garage. This has been my family's house in Sacramento County CA since 1968, and I plan on eventually moving back into it once everything is done (more on that later). Weather here is moderate - gets freezing or a bit below...

dealing with distance from interior edge of stem wall/sill plate to finished wall - OCD edition

:ROFLMAO: So I guess it IS a good idea to not leave it open!

dealing with distance from interior edge of stem wall/sill plate to finished wall - OCD edition

Enclosed cabinets are steel office style ("Hon") for lateral files, three measuring 78"x36"x15" - no drawers, the doors pivot-lift up then slide back in the top of their opening; open shelving ones are both wood bookcase style and steel open racks (Costco/HD/etc). Simply anchoring to the studs...

dealing with distance from interior edge of stem wall/sill plate to finished wall - OCD edition

I will be finishing out my old detached garage and this bit of space between the blue lines bugs me with regard to positioning/securing freestanding cabinets and shelving units to the walls. I really want the storage units to be flush against the walls, and...I really want to have everything...

what finish for Acacia island top?

Thanks all. There is no chance anything will ever be cut on it or even food placed directly on it though a spilled beer is highly likely!...I'm a cutting board, protective barrier freak of sorts. Not going to spend uber-$ for a super whoopie-twang space age product as it'd be overkill...

Sthil 025 chainsaw kill wire/switch has continuity everywhere, but doesn't KILL

Re: Sthil 025 chainsaw kill switch doesn't KILL - SOLVED Ha! I'm a ****:eyecrazy:, but it's fixed now. The OEM coil had a chassis ground wire built-in with the eye end attaching to the cylinder with the other ground which runs to the kill switch. After all the cleaning, etc, and putting the saw...

Sthil 025 chainsaw kill wire/switch has continuity everywhere, but doesn't KILL

Late last night I did replace the kill wire from the coil to the switch - still no stoppie. I'll probably clean up and reinstall the old one to see if that isolates the issue.

Sthil 025 chainsaw kill wire/switch has continuity everywhere, but doesn't KILL

So replaced the carb on my 17 yo Sthil 025 chainsaw, new plug and aftermarket coil (cuz I had them), set gaps, new filters, etc., and DEEP cleaned it...like toothpick and Q-tip clean. (okay, a bit OCD but it had never been thoroughly been gone into). Get it all back together, fire it up...runs...

what finish for Acacia island top?

Hi all: I bought an unfinished, 2-"live edge", 72" x 30" x 1.5" acacia top for a mobile island I'm putting together. I don't plan on hard use like chopping/food prep directly on the surface, and would like a long(er) lasting finish without worrying about water rings and regular spills, etc...
