Plomb, Snap On, Mac... Mystery Tools...

You should hold on to those. My advice is never sell tools. Even if you only might use it one time, it is worth keeping. B

    Show us your radio/speaker setup

I have an old Sansui receiver I bought in the 1970's, and some old Bose 501's. Bought a delay box on ebay and run a small set of speakers on the other side of the shop mounted at the eve. I plug a XM2go radio in and rock the shop. Old guys like old stuff.

    Diesel/Heavy Equipment Mechs

I can tell you that there is a huge shortage of heavy equipment techs looming. Something like 80% of the current heavy equipment techs are due to retire in 8 years. And there are not enough coming along to fill the demand. One area you might consider is public transit. (buses) I know one system...

    Car lift ..inspections?

As said above the insurance company can require about anything. They are always looking to lower the odds. At work I get the hard sell from the lift companies themselves to pay to have them come inspect the lifts we use. We do monthly inspections, using the inspection guidelines from the...

Hi there JB, I have never resealed a floor jack. But I have resealed a lot of hyd cylinders. Sounds like you should have the correct seals. I googled resealing a walker floor jack and found a few you tube posts, you could look at those for starters. It is a good idea to do a good job of draining...

4 post lift on a sloped garage floor...

I installed a four post in a horsebarn I converted to a shop. The floor had a sewer grade which amounted to around 3" of slope under the span of the lift. Since the floor was thin I cut the concrete, and poured 24" square columns set to level. Welded up a cage in the holes with two I beams on...

    In floor pit

Lots of issues, beyond the need for ventilation and some sort of cover or fence to keep people from falling in, is the hassle of going up and down everytime you need something. I think in the long run you would be happier with a good lift. B

Do you leave your compressor on?

No, I always turn it off. With a good ball valve on the tank output the tank should stay charged for quite a while. I only turn it on when I am going to use it. Although unlikely there is a chance for something to leak, crack, let go or what ever, and cause the compressor to run until it trips...

    Hillside garage

You said cabin, what is code in your area for snow load? That will have an effect on the roof you choose. Code should also require engineered drawings for the retaining wall, as well as good drainage behind it. 14' per vehicle would be better than 12'. Sounds like a great project. B

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Rewiring a dump trailer I bought out of Montana. Lots of road salt wiring issues. I took a break to watch the super bowl. And yes the bed is blocked.

    rubber floors

Nuts, I should have read your question better. I am not sure if the horse mat would catch on fire if a big chunk of red hot metal dropped on it or not, never tried that. But the area under and close to the drop would certainly melt and stink, sort of like branding a tire I guess, if you have...
