let's see your craftsman block grinders

A grinder that runs that long (2.5 minutes) after shutdown may have dry bearings. You might want to check their condition.

Usa made ALLEN metric ratchet and socket set

I've also been using that exact same set for over 30 years. Even though I have other ratchets, I still automatically grab the Allen. it's always worked just fine for me, and I like the push-button socket remover.

    Craftsman Drill Press --FREE!!!!

A gentleman who lives near me posted an ad for a Craftsman drill press on Nextdoor. The best part was the price---free!!! I just happened to see the ad 12 minutes after he posted it, so I jumped on it. It works fine, but there are a few cobbled together parts, such as the table lock. It also...

What kind of tool do I need to remove this dress nut? [Solved]

Volkswagens used nuts like those. I think that they were called escutcheon nuts. Look for the correct tool in the VW world.

How would one go about converting it? Is there a conversion kit available?

    Reed vise question

There is an extensive thread on vises in the General Tools section of GJ. Also, there is a thread on date markings on Reed vises. The search function is really useful for finding specific information and thread content.

    Proto ratchet question

I need some help with a really beat-up Proto 5449 1/2" ratchet. For anyone who owns one of these beefy ratchets, can someone please measure the screws that hold it together? The ones from this ratchet were mangled. The ratchet looks really old---I hope Proto didn't use some weird size back then...

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

I did pretty well at two estate sales today. The first one had very motivated sellers. I picked up the wire strippers, a set of Craftsman Torx drivers (which looked unused) and nice leather bound handbook, "Audels Carpenter and Builders Guide", published in 1923. It is in excellent condition. I...

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

There weren't many good sales around here today. I did find a few things at an estate sale that was going for 50% off. The tools aren't in great condition, but they should clean up just fine. First, a Peterson Vise-Grip, because you can't have too many of those in the drawer. Second, a Craftsman...

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

Yeah, that file cabinet was really interesting. He was asking $900, which may be hard to get, as that sort of furniture only appeal to a select few buyers. It was too nice to keep in the garage, but of no use in the house.

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

Yes, I bought that from the seller on Hiawatha. I'd bought a small lead furnace from him several months ago, and he just got around to finding some of the things that go with it. I picked up the Herbrand ratchet that you bought later, and was about to put in in the pile with my other purchases...

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

I had a good weekend at garage sales and an estate sale. The town I live in has a yearly "city-wide" garage sale, with more than 30 sales going on. As usual, most have things of little interest, but there are some gems out there. I found a lead melting ladle with the old Craftsman Crown Head...
