Board and bat look with low maintenance suggestions

The joints should be flashed with z-metal

    Tomato cages

call your local cemetery and see if they have floral stands. They are often left on site and a collection builds. They will give them away around here sometimes. They are 1/4 thick, you just have to tack weld the arm holding the legs together

poor air flow from vent question

if the good duct doesnt have a baffle(damper), you could install one. Then you would be able to close it off some to balance the system. One only cost about $10-15 for round pipe, and can go between one of the joints. Then it has an external lever to adjust. If you want to spend the money...

    Steel roofing input needed

i would not add to the top of the shingles. first off, your roof probably isnt designed for that load. Thats the main reason im against double shingles also. Secondly, as the shingles get older, they tend to curl on the end, possibly pushing on the metal. Steves theory makes good sense also...

    Joist Weight Concerns

mmhouse idea of scabbing a smaller 2x beside it is another good idea, and would probably be pretty easy. Ive had to do that before for an engineer to pass inspection. You would essentially just be building beams

    Joist Weight Concerns

taking a hem fir 24 oc carrying 20psf live, 10psf dead, l240 would give you a length of 16'. now change that to 12"oc and it gives a length of 22'7". So you could just go in and add a extra joist in the middle of your existing ones to meet load requirements. Heres some load charts to help

    Ceiling Insulation

i personally like a r-19(6") bat insulation covered with 6" of blown on top. Depending on where you are, most places call for at least r-30 in a ceiling. For price comparison on your question. Lowes and hd sale 22.5lb bags that cover 61.1' @ r-13 for $10.75, and 40 sq ft of faced bats @ r-13...

    My first welder!

im with 78bird, the miller 211 is a great machine all around imho. I want one for the dual voltage and portability. Id would advise going to the welding supply shops and ask for a demonstration, to see what you like. I prefer miller for mig, and lincoln for arc.

    Hip roof w/vaulted ceiling

yes, like trbomax said, scissor trusses. but you could also put a raised ceiling, or just put joist(windbeams) at 10' height

    Sub panel to attached garage.

roughly without checking current prices; conduit and supply line $120-200, sub-panel $50, 80 amp breaker $30, 250' of 12-2 $70. then figure your sub panel breakers, boxes, and receps; probably another $50-100. Of course this can very a lot, depending on what panel, size & type of wire, type of...

    Sub panel to attached garage.

#1-yes, you can add a subpanel there. you can add just about as many as you want. I have 4 subpanels, inside, one to add additional slots, christmas light panel, and garage. #2 & 3- depends on what you want. My father has #8 copper running 50' to a garage running 2x 220 welders, plasma, 6x...

    footings

we have to have them here in the south. Our local code requires 1' below natural ground, and 17 " wide for a monolithic slab. 1' below natural ground and 2' wide for floating slab. Built up pad requires the same but 1' below grade instead of natural ground

    Learning to bend tube?

its not hard, and youll learn your own techniques as you use it. Just remember, you can always bend it a little more and pull it back out a little. Play on some single bend pieces before bending something with multiple bends. Hoops were a pain at first to me. I also use soapstone and...
