    Fumes and new construction

Most of it should be "good" with a quality drywall job and fire sealant at any penetrations. Or just eliminate penetrations on that wall. No switches or outlets etc. The door will be the only way in for nasty stuff, so double doors or industrial strength seals. The mud room idea is a very...

Preparing the ground to pour a slab

Set your forms at the edges. Once the forms are firmly in place at the right level, use a straight edge from form to form to check the thickness. Adjust accordingly. The straight edge can be the screed used to level the concrete once it's poured. You can use string for this too, just keep...

GFCI being tripped by refrigerator - any overall electrical risk?

210.8 already said the GFCI has to be accessible, so not behind the fridge. Article 110 says to install as per manufacturers instructions. Unless the OP installs a new dedicated circuit this will be a pita forever.

GFCI being tripped by refrigerator - any overall electrical risk?

Two things from my "research" regarding refer and freezers and GFCI. The NEC changed one rule and says "...no GFCI behind the refer/freezer...". Makes sense--you can't get to it. It also says to "...install the refer/freezer per the manufacturers instructions....". That's where the "no...

GFCI being tripped by refrigerator - any overall electrical risk?

Don't run the refer on a GFCI. No need. I did have a batch of GFCIs that went "bad". I've replaced some, some are behind a piano....pure joy.

Anyone ever removed a toilet before?

And then you can swap in a "4X4 Long Bed" toilet, so you'll have more room to do paperwork and enjoy more freedom of "movement".

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

20x20 is not deep enough. 22 to 25 feet deep is a minimum IMO after nearly 20 years of kicking myself daily.... What about behind the house with the doors a "left turn" from your existing drivway? You could connect it via your outcropped center part of the house. In the process you would...

Want suggestions for handheld battery pruning saw

Have the M18 brushless Hackzall. Works like a champ. My high-mile corded Sawzall may become a dust collector. Not as fast as a chainsaw. But "safer" and fast enough depending on what you're doing. I have an electric Remington chainsaw on a stick. Good, but is fouled and clogged if you get...

Routing lots of underground utility lines, proper methods?

I had the feed from the pole put underground. Four foot deep, and a straight line from the pole to the meter were the requirements for the 4" conduit. Lots of fun digging that. For your other conduit, use the largest size practical. If you think 3/4 will work, go 1". If you are doing a...

Makita Or Milwaukee 18V Tire Inflator

Milwaukee M18 inflator. I like it. Faster & quieter than my $35 Harbor Freight mistake. Not that it's quiet...it's just quieter..... The fitting is screw on to the valve, but it has a built in overinflation of just enough to compensate for the little that lost unscrewing the hose.

    Toilet Selection???

About a year or so ago I swapped in two Kohler Highline Arc units. They come with a soft-close seat/lid. They use a different system to dump all the water quickly for a more powerful flush. I have an American Standard Cadet "Long bed 4x4" that we've had for 18 years or so. No problems, but...

    Why 8-10, 9-11, 12-14, 13-15 Splits Instead of 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, etc?

My limited experience was that Honda used 12/14 and Yamaha 13/15 for many fasteners. 10mm always popular..... Can't recall which way Suzuki fell even though I had two of them and had them completely apart many times....

HF Manual Tire Changer - use for TPMS replacements?

I used a HF unit for a bunch of tires, including breaking beads and putting in TPMS. Where are you located? I might know where a deal on one would be......

    Exterior lights box requirement?

Had to use a box for my garage and house 18-20 years ago. Shallow box or recessed, depending on where it was, so the stucco would match up with it. Passed inspection that way.
