    "Polished" Concrete Floor Issue ?

I will probably insulate it eventually when I get budget for it. Right now the garage is in a shaded area and with a ridge vent, soffitt vents, and 8 window total. If its really hot, I just won't fiddle with the cars that day.

    "Polished" Concrete Floor Issue ?

Hello all, I'm by no means a concrete expert, neither I believe is anyone in my area. I used a local lumber yard to build an economical 36x24x12 garage and specified a polished 6" deep concrete floor. The contractors overall did a nice job for the total price. Of course there are small bits...

    Garage Door Height Extenders

Success! The contractor reworked the doors and now the track is only 10 inches from the ceiling. The doors are actually about 8 inches from the ceiling. So I went from a 10' 6" cleearance from the track to the floor to an 11' 2" clearance. It was a pain for the contractor to un-install 2...

    Garage Door Height Extenders

Small world, my contractor is using Amarr out of Columbia SC for the doors. I like the doors, even sprung for a row of windows for more light. BTW, I'm keeping the door manual. Not in the garage but maybe once a day (more like about 3 times a week) and a $1000 for openers on 3 doors I'd...

    Garage Door Height Extenders

Argh! The spec for my garage called for garage door extenders, or getting the doors as close to the ceiling as possible. I have 12 foot ceilings and 10 foot high doors, 9 feet wide. So I wander back to the garage (detached, 250 feet from the house) and the contractor is done with door # 1 and...

    36 x 24 for Christmas in SC

Hello All, The build started in Oct. for my 36 x 24 x 12 with attic trusses then sort or stalled with weather and getting the concrete poured. The last two weeks have been hectic with workmen, and I think they are working towards getting finished and their final payment before Christmas...

Help with Concrete Seams / Expansion Joints

Thanks for the feedback / advice. I've been playing with graph paper to try and figure out a solution. I think I've solved it, the dotted lines are the control joints, the garage is 36 x 24, I have a 2-post lift in the first (left) bay and a 4 post in the middle bay. With the three control...

Help with Concrete Seams / Expansion Joints

I had thought about that when I was playing with the layout on graph paper. But honestly couldn't decide on the lift placement (front / back / distance from the wall etc.) and all the different sizes / wheel bases of the vehicles with enough accuracy to be effective. So I figured just go with...

Help with Concrete Seams / Expansion Joints

Yes, the installer said 1 foot away from a control joint. My plan is to have the control joint run down the center of the garage door, so it'd be 5 1/2 feet from either lift post base plate (or 6 feet if I get a 12 foot wide lift).

Help with Concrete Seams / Expansion Joints

Thanks for the feedback. I spoke with a local dealer / installer for Bendpak and Direct Lifts and he stated that you can have a control joint between the posts, just not between the bolts of a single post. So I plan on having a control joint down the center of each garage door. 3 control...

Help with Concrete Seams / Expansion Joints

Hello, I know very little about concrete. I'm getting a 24x36 (3 car wide - 24 foot deep) slab poured next week. A foundation was poured, and a 4 block high cinder wall put up. The will be grading the inside, putting clay down, laying a vapor barrier, and then pouring a 6 inch slab. It...

    24 x 36 Foundation & Block In : Slab Questions

Thanks for the feedback. Just moved to SC last year, I'm thinking our temperature swings are more like 30 - 100. Everyone down here freaks out if it gets below freezing and the weather reporters put out dire warnings. My wife and I are both from Chicago and find the whole situation humorous.

    24 x 36 Foundation & Block In : Slab Questions

Hello, Not sure I'm uploading all the photos correctly, but we'll see. My 24 x 36 build started last week (yeah!). Foundation was poured and block is in. Grading, plumbing and electrical rough in, block fill, and slab pouring is next. Question 1 : The block will need to be sealed as...

    New to Board Building 24 x 36 - what have I missed

Thanks for all the awesome feedback. I'm beginning to like the idea of 2x 16 foot doors. How tall is your "3" car garage. I've always thought that 12 foot is insane, but it seems to make sense with the lift. I'm also toying with the stairs outside idea, though I'm not sold. I think...
