    Oriel optical table for garage

I thought about one of these as a work table. Being made for optical testing they are nearly dead flat, which really appeals to me. Usually have tapped holes in a precise pattern, might be great to bolt things down. The downside for a workbench would be they're hollow as mentioned, The holes are...

    To Baldor or not?

I have 9 machines in my wheel and sanding belt area. Eight of them are Baldor motors. Got most of them used off Craigslist. Baldors do run very smooth. Mine are all bolted to cast or heavy steel pedestals. On every machine it is my practice to place an 1/8" thick piece of neoprene between the...

    36" L Williams 57B double end engineers wrench, resto/display, w/custom stands

Yes you are absolutely right! I realized this as I was using various tip size Omega drawing markers to highlight the logo/text stampings. To get a little black into the text took multiple passes as the pens don't lay down a lot of ink. Could have sprayed first and the sanding would have left...

Rest of the pics...and it's new spot in the shop.

    36" L Williams 57B double end engineers wrench, resto/display, w/custom stands

I've had my eye out for a large Williams wrench for a while. This is not as big as I wanted, but seems like the big ones are pretty rare. I found this 57B a few weeks ago and decided to go for it. At 36"L and 33lbs. it's still pretty big. Five hrs round trip to get it. (crazy things you can do...

    Strong drawer dividers or ideas

There was a thread here with a video using various sized post shields cut in half and cut to length as needed to fit your drawers. Might be worth a look. It's the 5th or 6th post in. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/bins-or-dividers-for-drawers.551620/

Garage battles and war stories - Or how I almost killed myself fixing _________

Was rounding the edges of some aluminum pieces on my router table about 3 weeks ago. I grabbed a paper towel to wipe away the mess from aluminum chips and WD40, with the bit STILL GOING (yeah...I know). Got my finger tip just a hair too close and the bit nipped the fingernail and the tip of the...

Anyone have Knipex Self-Adjusting Automatic Wire Strippers (12 62 180)

I have the Knipex op posted. Takes a little futzing to get it right, but it works ok. The biggest flaw for me was when stripping older wires where the plastic insulation has hardened slightly over time. It had a hard time making a clean cut there. New wire worked much better. I only need it...

I found Another Queen City Grinder Today!

I've had a couple of those which I bought just for the pedestals. Very beefy and the large embossed logos on the columns add a unique cool touch.

    Garage cabinets

I had four Gladiator premier wall cabinets, still have two. They are definitely much better. Rigid, sturdier, no assembly time. Easy to hang with the slat strips. I actually prefer drawer cabinets for organizing parts in my shop, the gladiators are in my wash house. Mine are probably 10-15 years...

Table Saw and Router Plate Distance Question

My first thought too looking at the drawing. Especially when using a bearing router bit (no fence) and a slightly larger workpiece.

6" x 48" combination belt and 12" disc sander options?

I've got both Grizzly's, the G1276 and G1183. I like them. The belt end covers can be fussy, but a minor nusiance. The quick belt change levers are great, although you'll still futz with the tracking each time you change belts, but that's seems normal. The 1 1/2hp motors have been adequate for...

How to clean up mangled threads on threaded rod?

A quick search shows a one meter piece of hardened rod (you'd have to shorten it) for about $90. Regular steel $20ish. Or get the nuts from MMC as mentioned above. Don't know how much the tool value warrants the $$. Also, those threads look pretty ground down, even if you get the die there those...

    Leveling Feet for Metal Workbenches

I have the threaded plastic inserts on the ends of tubing legs of one workbench. Leveler feet like you're considering. They worked just fine, quick and easy to install. If you prefer welded and want something already cut and drilled, some square plate washers are pretty cheap. They come in lots...

    Cast Iron Tool Stand

I'd second the kick press. I bought one just for the legs at a scrap yard. I scrapped the press and used them to build a custom butcher block stand for the kitchen. They're a bit bigger than yours, but very similiar.
