A Herringbone Parquet Floor, From Scratch

Adding my voice to the annual request for pics of the finished project! I can't wait! Well, obviously I can, but I prefer not to. Side note: I did use the filler you recommended on a small project. Great find! Thanks for sharing the results of your research.

    DIY Shower Install Issue

Do you have access to the other side of the edge-drilled 2x4? Looks like maybe the cold line was run that way in a misguided attempt to avoid sharing space with the electrical box. Maybe not. Maybe I'm looking for an explanation where none exists. Quickest approach for someone without sweating...

    Springs for a Ramp/Gate

I'm not sure of your design intent, but I've seen garage door springs used in tension, and in torsion, for fold-down ramps. If you can include one type or another in your design, you will find a wide variety of sizes and capacities available.

    Buying your stuff two times

Garage Journal . . . The place where you can learn to fix everything, including a broken heart. Can a repair for the crack of dawn be far behind?

    Poorboys garage

Since you already have many folks a bit envious of your space, I'm going to state my envy of your trench(!). If I dug a trench that long, it would meander around subterranean unmovables, and I would have a pile of rocks at least as big as the pile of soil.

Was this just for framing and can I remove it?

I'm not looking to quarrel, but I'm unfamiliar with the use of coil strapping as a substitute for a let-in brace, or properly fastened sheathing, as a support against racking loads. Also, the site you linked does not show that as an intended application in their product literature...

Was this just for framing and can I remove it?

Decades of framing experience weighing in here. The diagonal on the outside is called a 'Let-in Brace'. It is recessed into the 2x4 studs to provide resistance to racking, as others have explained, and to allow a flush surface for exterior sheathing/siding install. The interior 2x4 is...

Need opinions on roofing for nearly-flat shed roof

If your concerns about new tools and techniques are moving you away from other options, a seamless EPDM roof, of appropriate thickness, can be expected to last well beyond 10 years, particularly in new construction. This assumes a strong focus on proper installation, including edge details -...

Could use some help solving a design issue

I guess that leaves you cutting the holes with C-clamps. Jokes aside, remove the top. Use the jig saw to cut a kerf across the grain at both ends of each notch. Knock out the waste and clean up the notch with a chisel. Put the top back on.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

What a great juxtaposition of those last two photos, with that unique tree anchoring them both. Even someone unfamiliar with the story would pause. Excellent bookends!

Need some help from the G.J. brain trust

    - If you are 100% committed to the gasket solution, you can check in with commercial glazier suppliers. They have access to gasketing options unknown to most common men. Gaskets designed to accommodate flex in framing, in addition to locating, securing, and sealing the pane. Another option may...

Chrome plater didn't tape over stud threads.

    - The plater has more experience fixing these errors than you do. Take it back for a 'expedited' fix by the pro that caused it.

Pipe thread connections - what's the trick to getting it right?

-Happy to hear of you're success. Just to add another voice. Like others in this thread, I got a great tip, from an old plumber, years ago. Griip, by Oatey.
