    Welder which one

I agree with purchasing an auto-darkening mask. My welding improved tremendiously when I bought mine. I decided to buy a Miller brand mask. Not cheap but I did not want to take a chance with a cheap HF mask. You only have one pair of eyes.

    Info Needed on old Buffer/Grinder

As a new member, I have been enjoying the forum, especially the vintage tool discussion section. I thought everyone would be interested in the photos of an old buffer/grinder that was given to me years ago. I recently finished a light refurbishment painting the unit and the cast iron stand. I...

Looking for some pointers on heating pole barn

I'm in the Shenandoah Valley, VA and have a similar size garage. I use it as a workshop and storage for a classic '67 Corvette. So I wanted to have heat and A/C. I decided on a mini-split (Carrier) and it works great. In winter I keep it at 60 degrees and the few times I used it last summer it...

Lets make an all vintage Snap-on tool picture thread!

I'm fairly new to the forum and have been following/enjoying this Snap On thread. I picked up this Metric, 3/8" drive ratchet & socket set a few years ago. If I remember, I only paid $20.00. The box is a KR281 and dated 1957. The sockets, ratchet and accessories have mixed dates of 1957 & 1958...

Athol 630 Swivel Jaw & Base Vise Info Request

Oregon rock crusher. Thanks for your post with the Athol Vise info. I found an old Channon Company catalog cut sheet with the dimensions and weight of the Athol 644 and it matches exactly to my model 630. It makes sense that they changed the model numbers but why was the 630 was never shown in a...

Lets make an all vintage Snap-on tool picture thread!

I bought this vintage Snap-On tool box a few years ago for only $10.00. I did not need another tool box but saw the Snap-On name anddecal and thought it would be a nice display piece. It's in overall good condition with some paint loss and slight surface rust on he bottom. I did some research...

I was hoping the vise experts could offer some information on my Athol 630 swivel jaw vise. I found some old Athol catalog pages posted on the GF but none mention the Model 630. Thank You, rocket29

    Introduction From A New Member

Thank you all for your kind words. As promissed in my previous post see below: My tool collection includes an extensive group of standard mechanic tools (Snap-On, Craftsman, etc.) all stored in a large, 54” wide, deep, Snap-On roller cabinet with a stainless-steel top. It includes all types of...

    Introduction From A New Member

I am new to the GF, joining last week. As I learn how to navigate the site I hope to be an active participant. I am a retired mechanical engineer and have been a "gearhead" since high school. My favorite toy growing up was my Gilbert Erector Set, which I still have. My main interests are...

Athol 630 Swivel Jaw & Base Vise Info Request

I am new to the Garage Forum. Hopefully the vintage vise experts can help. I acquired a nice Athol Model 630 vise about 10 years ago at an estate sale. I'm not a collector and had never seen a swivel jaw vise, so I purchased it. I don't remember what I paid for it but it was probably less than...
