Help me figure out a way to sort out 3 way switch please

I recently replaced all of the old back stab outlets in a rental house I own. I bought new Legrand 15-Amp Duplex Commercial Outlets at Lowes. A 10 pack was $20.24. These are back wire (not back stab) and were very easy to wire up with nice solid connections. You can easily connect four pairs of...

    Heat Pump Thermostat Wiring

I wired the violet and white wires together and ran them to the AUX terminal on the thermostat with a jumper to the "E" terminal. The electric heat strips and the fan came on when the switch on the thermostat was placed in emergency heat mode. In normal heat mode the heat pump turned on and the...

    Heat Pump Thermostat Wiring

I am working on a rental house that had some fire damage. It has a 2011 Payne heat pump with all components housed in a metal outdoor box. The original thermostat was damaged in the fire and lost in the demo work. I have purchased a new Honeywell non-programable RTH3100C thermostat that is made...

    Moving A 4 Post Lift

We moved a 4 post lift 20 miles this morning without disassembling it. Here is how we did it: We backed a dump trailer under the lift then lowered the deck onto the top of the trailer. We then raised each column individually with a High Lift Jack. I worked the jack while Tom held the lock...

Replacing outlets: which ones to buy?

I prefer the back wiring outlets using the screw-and-clamp system. This type is easy to use, and makes the best connection. They are more expensive but IMHO well worth the extra money. Outlets with side wiring using the side terminal screws take more time to install as you have to shape a loop...

What would you consider the "Holy Grail" of your collection

I found this old Sun distributor tester on CL a couple of years ago. It had been setting idle for many years and was filthy dirty. Whoever used it in the past had failed to clean the dripping oil from the distributors before chucking them up in the tester. At least the oil kept it from rusting...

Show us Your Vintage Bench Grinders!!!!

I did a search for "bench grinder" and came across this thread. Okay, you guys have convinced me that the vintage Made in USA bench grinders are the best available. Here is what I bought yesterday. It's missing the spark guards and shields, but the tool rests are very solid and the cord...

    Vaulted Garage Lighting

I used a total of 12, four tube T8 fixtures hung from chains in my 30X75 foot shop. It's nice and bright and I'm very happy with the results. My plans called for 6 fixtures but I doubled up on them and I'm glad I did.

2 post lift, getting arms to rise evenly?

The arms on my newly installed lift were off more than yours. With pads touching in the middle there was a full inch difference between the left and right side arms. My concrete was level and the posts were plumb but my lift wasn't even close to being level . A car on it would lean to the left...

    Wiring a lift

You only need one drop from the ceiling to the lift. The connection to the safety cut out switch should be made on the lift, not in the ceiling box. On my lift I ran flex from the ceiling to a 4 square box mounted on top of the "off side" post. I than ran EMT conduit across the top of the lift...

New build concrete slab for 10,000# lift?

12 inches of concrete is overkill. 5-1/2 inches is plenty thick to support your lift. Having said that I do think it's a good idea to make the concrete 8 inches thick where the lift will be. This extra thickness isn't for added strength but to have the rebar deeper so you won't hit it when...
