    A simple (I hope!) back-up generator question

Thanks, my ESP isn't fine-tuned. I'll have to see if I have enough room between the sub and the furnace to squeeze in the switch. Does anyone know off the top of their head what the clearance requirements are for a service panel? (or a code reference?) It's pretty tight in there and I'm...

To which option are you referring?

    A simple (I hope!) back-up generator question

I don't think an interlock will work as the sub is just a main lug and doesn't have a main breaker to disconnect. Although, your comment makes me wonder...would a manual transfer switch designed to switch the entire sub panel from main feed to generator feed (such as the Reliance 100A Utility...

    A simple (I hope!) back-up generator question

I'll apologize in advance if this has been asked before but my eyes were crossing looking through all of the existing generator-related threads. I'd like to purchase a small, gas-powered generator and a simple manual transfer switch (like a Reliance, etc.) to power a few essentials during a...

    G73 Dayton problems

I use a LP heater to get the garage up to 40F or so and then kick on the Fahrenheat unit (same as Dayton G73). This helps to avoid the rapid cycling you mention in the above post. (And, yes, the heater is supposed to do that at especially cold temps.)

an era comming to an end

I was going to relate my experience working for a community development organization in a Cleveland neighborhood that was literally wiped out by foreclosures, absentee landlords and thugs. But since you mention CMHA (Cuyahoga Metro Housing Authority), I suspect you already know the story... I...

    dayton/new air

I thought I would jump in here as I just installed a Fahrenheat unit in my little 1-1/2 car garage. The very first day in operation it kept my partially insulated garage at 62F while it was 7F outside. (I used a small LP mr. Heater to get the garage past the 50F mark but the Fahrenheat took...

Installing VCT in the cold ?

I just tried something similar in my shop and the glue took a very long time to "tack-up." I went ahead and laid the tiles (which stayed put) but I suspect I'll be seeing popped tiles by the spring.

A Slightly Different 'Sub in the Gar' Question

Well, it seems that option #3 was the winner. It wasn't fun driving the conduit under the house, though. What I thought was loose fill turned out to be solid clay. Regardless, the pipe is in and I'm now going about cleaning the clay out of it. A couple other quick questions: 1) NEC calls...

Paranoid about heating a small shop...

As a fellow small garage sufferer (14'x20' here), I can vouch for the fact that the fumes from both LP and kerosene heaters will quickly give you a headache in such a small garage. Plus, I always feel like I'm too close to the heater in my small space and find myself preoccupied with not...

    Subpanel / Wire Routing Questions

A Slightly Different 'Sub in the Gar' Question

Thanks for the input. It's helped bring me closer to a decision to forget the aerial idea and focus on the underground run. Of the three underground runs discussed, going through the patio is out as the penetration point in the basement wall is too close to plumbing and furnace/boiler/hot...
