I dug these out of my tool box. The Stanley is obviously the newest. The wood-cased one is my favorite and is a K & E. Both the Zippo (old logo) and the K & E are only 6 foot.
Looking for Craftsman -v- socket
I am currently missing a 7mm 3/8 dr. socket. I am looking for a Craftsman 12pt. -v- socket in that size. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Looking at some of the Craftsman tool catalogs online from the mid-1950's, those inserts were originally metal socket holders and came with box-head ratchets in the cases. Too bad they didn't continue the all-metal construction. I would have preferred that over fragile plastic.
I know what you mean. The insert from the other box is missing chunks and it's now in the trash. I'm not going to bother trying to create another set. I'm just happy I got one out of it. The other box can be used for storing other tools like ignition wrench's or extra sockets and such. It's got...
yep. Both sets had two 8-points. They go with the set. Looked in a 1960 Craftsman tool catalog pdf. There are nine sockets: two 8-point and seven 6-point. The 12-piece set only came with the flex-handle and crossbar. The 16-piece came with the ratchet, T-handle, and two extender bars (6 in and 3...
Thanks, Brian.
Made my final choice and cleaned everything up for one complete set.
Now I just need to figure out how to tear down and re-lube the ratchet. Long-levers are supposed to have different internals than those that came after and there doesn't appear to be any youtube tutorials on...
Last week, I picked up these two 1/4" Craftsman sets from the early '60's. One is missing a ratchet. The other has a long-lever style included. I have enough pieces and parts to make a complete 16 pc. set. The problem is, there are differences in the way each set was made. The boxes have...
Did Craftsman ratchets of this time period come with grease in them? If so, what was the point of the oil port on the top of the ratchet head?
I recently disassembled a used craftsman 1/2" ratchet from the late 1970's and found crusted orange-colored grease on the pawl and the main gear. I try...
I picked up a 5/16 hex key at Hab. Restore to make the set complete. I also took some pics with my phone. 2 of the hex sockets are actually 12-point. All are branded Walden. They were either replacements or a factory error of some kind. (The yellow card could be wrong):dunno:
Nice vises! Yost are now made in Holland (USA not EU :)) instead of Meadeville PA. I live about 45 minute drive from the factory.

Mine looks like the 3/8 one on the right. It doesn't have the fat head of the one on the left. My camera isn't working right now, so I can't post any pics. Maybe in the future I will take pics of the whole set. I assume the 5/16 hex key is the common "L" shaped variety right? Is it black or plated?
I recently picked up a Stevens Walden PM21 socket set which appears to be complete with the exception of the hex key. The ratchet is model 4051 (pointed end). The ratchet back has a knurled wheel that doesn't look removable. I would like to get this open in order to lube it. Anybody have...
