    Garage Subpanel question

I believe that three #8 is allowed in 1/2 conduit. I tried to do it but my pipe had an actual 90* elbow in the concrete and couldn't get it to pass through that. If you do try, have two people. I tried to pull it myself 50 feet away and the cable at the other end kept twisting and...

    FLUKE 87 III shematic diagram

I know it sounds super obvious, but did you change the battery? My Fluke at work was giving some crazy readings one day and a couple days latter the battery indicator went on.

    LED replacements for florescent tubes

Bought a whole bunch of 4ft direct wire LEDs at Habitat. Make sure your tombstones are in good shape. When you rewire them, you have 120V potential on only one tombstone, not across two of them like when the ballast is in place. A couple of my tubes were temperamental when it was cold and I...

Impact Driver - Necessity or Time Saver?

Best tools I ever bought for working on cars was and air compressor and an IR231 impact wrench. Did lots of work that I never would have even thought because of on rusty old bolts. Wouldn't even think of working on suspension systems with out one.

    Upgrade from Fuses

While I don't have a problem with a fuse box, many insurance companies do. When I bought my place State Farm wanted 100 amp service with breakers. Too many people have upped the sizes of their fuses with no regard to wire gauge.

Can you combine a 240v and 110 circuit in same box?

I was under the impression that code didn't allow different legs to be accessible in a box unless they were on a double pole breaker otherwise someone could open up the box thinking they killed the power, yet there was still live power in the box.

Stuck drum brake: how to release?

Did the wheel turn before you started all this? If so, I would say that the shoes are not stuck to the drum and there is a ridge around the drum not allowing it to pass over the shoes or the center register hub/face of the hub is seized to the frum. I understand not wanting to destroy the...

    Garage Repairable?

Snow loads? Local code requirements? Lot set backs? Looks kinda rough and might be better to start over, but "fixing" the old one might be easier than having to comply to new regulations.

Choosing a lawnmower is driving me crazy

Best mower we ever had a 80s Toro with the 2 cycle Suzuki engine. Has the BBC. Still starts on the first or second pull, but these days the float occasionally sticks.

Any reason not to get a 1/2" air ratchet?

Ratchet, NOT impact, right? Use my 1/2 IR 231 impact all the time. Got a 3/8 IR ratchet about the same time. Rarely use the ratchet. Used it to replace a water pump this weekend, and the last time it was used was probably 8 years ago when I replaced the same water pump. Really doesn't...

should i get an air compressor and tools?

A compressor (5hp 30gal) and an impact wrench (IR 231) was the best thing I ever bought to work on cars. So many things that were a struggle were no more. Being in MI, I'm sure you've seen your share of rusty bolts. Couldn't imagine front end work without it. Haven't tried any of these new...
