    My polyurea saga

Nice series of posts! This info would have helped me a ton when I did my floor. I would suggest the shot blaster instead. It creates less dust, leaves a more uniform finish, and is much faster than the grinder. I rented TWO EDCO grinders, and trust me, it's a no brainer to use shot blasting...

Solid White polyurea (with white flakes?)

I don't have much experience with flooring, but my intuition is that you'll have similar problems with any solid color. The broadcast flakes hide dirt and flaws because it works similar to camouflage. The light gray may help a little, but I'm guessing if you track in mud / slush you'll still...

Solid White polyurea (with white flakes?)

Hi Vin, Like you, I wanted to keep the garage as bright as possible. I'm finding that as I get older, my eyes need more light. To answer your questions: I did a pure white polyurea floor with a clear finish coat. You can read about my experience which has a couple of pics in it. The color...

My lessons from DIY polyurea flooring

Yes! Legacy Industrial was very helpful and knowledgeable throughout the process. Scotty answered my questions via e-mail and was helpful on the phone when I ran into (self-induced) issues. I have zero complaints about their product or service. Highly recommend, would buy again, A+++++++...

The floor looks nice! IMO, flakes will hide a lot of imperfections. I imagine most floors will look great on day one, and I'd love to see how well this one lasts given all the challenges you faced. In any case, it's 100x better than it was. Thanks for sharing! I'm a bit worried about the...

Glad to hear it worked out and you saved yourself a lot of money! The dust collection and protection cannot be understated. That is absolutely the FIRST thing anyone should do before tackling this job - proper dust mitigation. It's been a month now and I am no longer coughing uncontrollably...

My lessons from DIY polyurea flooring

Exactly. The garage floor I had was flaking badly. Not sure what it was before, either epoxy or paint with flake. I believe the moisture issue was causing it to peel, which is why I opted for the Aquadike. I'm curious to see how this holds up over time. I suspect there are a lot of noobs...

My lessons from DIY polyurea flooring

I recently did two garages with polyurea. This is my "post-mortem" of the experience, what went well and what did not. I hope this helps others with the process. Disclaimer: I did not do everything the "right way". I'm sure I made a lot of mistakes. This writeup is to document how this...

Ghostshield application with no door yet

I don't know anything about these products, but having done my floor recently, my advice is to wait and avoid forcing a bad decision. For my project, it's been delay after delay for one reason or another. It was supposed to be done mid June, but my workshop still isn't finished. I was going...

    My lessons from concrete prep

I'm glad I could help. I dove head first into building a workshop so it's been quite a journey. I hadn't considered the interaction with metal and acid, now I'm glad I didn't do the acid etch. For my metal shop, there is a trim piece that was screwed to the floor, and acts as a "skirt" around...

Yes, that is the shot blaster I used. In addition to the shot blaster, you also need: - HEPA vacuum ($125) - Sweeper magnet ($25) - Shot media ($40-ish per bag) IMO, this is the best way to go. You'll also need a hand grinder w/ grinding blade to get the edges and hard to reach places.

    Going rate for polyurea

My guesstimate is a 2-car garage is roughly 400sf, so maybe close to your $6/sf. You can definitely DIY polyurea. The price will depend on the amount of prep required and quality of materials. IME you get what you pay for. If my estimate of your size is correct, $1k may be a little low, if...

    My lessons from concrete prep

I'm glad you found it helpful! I'm sorry to hear about your injury and glad you are recovering! There is a certain amount of finesse required to properly manipulate the dual head grinder. It is not hard, but it will be difficult to get it into tight spaces or along walls if your control is...

    My lessons from concrete prep

Congrats on the shop! No, don't do what I did. I made a lot of mistakes, please don't repeat them! You don't need to worry about ruining your lungs if you use a proper DUST mask! I went through this because I have no idea what I was doing. After using the dual head grinder, I was looking...
