    Hill Acme Tool Engine Hoist

Not to bring back a thread from the dead, but apparently one of these was also used to build Fat Man: http://blog.nuclearsecrecy.com/2014/11/10/fat-mans-uranium/

    Show your new tool arrivals

http://imgur.com/h98dO7K My latest score. Got a set of Wright metric combination wrenches, and hit up Ebay for the pliers and screwdrivers on the left. The rest is from a retiring machinist who gave some of his stuff to me. The pliers are "Utica" brand gas and burner pliers, still new in box. I...

    Home Built CNC Machine

What are you looking to build? A wood cutting router table? A mill or lathe of some kind? A plasma table? You've got a long road here. CNCZone is a decent resource if you put in the time to read all the old threads, but don't expect much help. I was on there a year or so ago and it was...

Compressor Size vs. Impact Wrench Power

So, I've been lurking for quite a while, and I've seen this discussed multiple times, but nobody has provided a clear answer. I own an Ingersoll-Rand 2135 TiMAX. At one place I use it, it ran off an old tank of a compressor that had a 5hp/20A motor, a huge Ajax 2-stage pump, and a 60-gallon...

Snap-On Credit Debate (school me on why not)

Not worth it, man. First of all, it isn't a good deal, 22% interest is a lot, and you could do better. You might need to rebuild your credit, but there have got to be better ways than knowingly taking a bad deal. Second, maybe I'll get flamed for this, but a toolbox is about the last thing I...

What are the main use for your tools?

Wish I could make my SO understand that! I get so much **** from her for buying stuff I don't need yet, but not a peep when it actually comes in handy. Anyway, at work, I use my tools to make jet engine parts. At home, my tools are to work on my car and to fix whatever might be broken that day.

Machinists/Tool and Die makers, what do you use for your work toolbox?

Kennedy and Proto seem to be the most popular in my shop. I have a Waterloo, which isn't anything special. At my home shop, I have two Gerstner boxes which were passed through four generations of machinsts and are still holding up well.

    Air Impact (help me decide)

For a long time, I'd been using an old Campbell-Hausfeld that came with my air compressor. I'm 23 and for me, something as expensive as a nice impact gun is a major purchase, so I tried to make do with the cheap one I had for a couple years. I've been lusting after the 2135timax for a long time...

    Socket Organization

^^^^ I like the gray plastic holders, but I wonder if they're better with some brands than others, because my sockets don't quite fit in mine. I'm building a CNC router right now, and when it's done, I'm going to make something along those lines, except they'll actually fit.

    School me on air compressors...

So, I'm looking for a new compressor, and have a few questions. I'd been using a 2hp, 8-gallon Campbell Hausfeld portable and I'm thinking of upgrading. What's the difference between CFM and SCFM and how much of either do I need to use a decent assortment of tools? Also, how does motor and tank...

Anybody remember the Cummins tools rig?

I remember those! God what a ripoff. They used to show up at flea markets in the area, and I know one particularly low-rent place that still sells them. They were hands-down the worst tools I've ever used.

    Why Snap-On?

First of all, I'm not trying to start anything with this. I'm sure some of you guys have really strong opinions about this, and I'm sure it's been asked before. But I'd really like to know, from you who own and love them, why Snap-On? I'm a 23-year-old gearhead. I don't have enough cash to...
