I've seen the longevity mig units in the 140 amp Class with spoolgun although they are limited to like 10 gauge.
EDIT- a spoolgun has its own spool of wire and wire drive system on the handle.
Get the biggest machine you can afford. Aluminum welding you will need a spoolgun and for stainless you will need a bottle of tri mix gas. The 140 is your better option but for me I'd want at least a 200 amp machine.
