Can 1/8 inch aluminum be spot welded?

Didn't see that, but aluminum can also be gas welded, with the proper flux. Probably a better option than spot welding something that thick. Tom Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Foundation Repair Question

The wall should have been backfilled with sand. Otherwise the expansion and contraction of the fill from season to season will push the wall in. My dad had the same problem in his basement and the solution was to dig out the soil (clay) outside of the wall out and properly backfill it. If you...

Attaching Cedar Pickets to Metal Fence Frame

With the quantity involved, I would use stainless self drilling screws. Just drive them in with a cordless and leave them proud, or run them flush into the soft wood. Tom

Can 1/8 inch aluminum be spot welded?

Sounds like you have a good application for a rossette weld. Drill a hole through the top piece, clamp the parts together and weld through the hole, fusing the two parts together. It works great on thicker materials and doesn't require any special equipment. Tom

    1/8” Bendable Stainless Rod

A 2" radius can be easily bent around a form with 1/8" wire. You will have to use a form that is slightly smaller to allow for spring back. The 90º bends can be made by hammering them over in a vise, or with one of the inexpensive wire benders that mount in a vise. Tom

Powermatic 1150a drill press speed problems

The outer race definitely should not be turning in the bore. The bore will need to be repaired and there are shims made just for that situation. They are called wear sleeves and are available from any bearing supplier. I think McMaster Carr also carries them. Depending on how much wear there is...

How To Change To A Regular Chuck On My Drill Press

If the drill press ever been tipped over, the spindle could be bent (unlikely). If not, the chuck is probably just worn out or the taper bore in the spindle is galled. If you have access to a dial test indicator, you may be able to figure out where the runout is occurring. Run the indicator on...

    Security Cameras

I'll second the Arlo Pro 2 recommendation. I have three watching thee outside of my house and shop plus one on the Up North cottage. It's great to be able to check up on things from my phone, plus get alerts when anything out of the ordinary occurs. Tom

    Sticker Shock 30x40 New Build

I experienced the same sticker shock in the U.P. for my 40 x 70. I ended up switching to an open truss steel building from Worldwide Steel Buildings. The basic building was delivered to my site for just over $30K. I was responsible for the dirt, concrete, doors and windows, and assembly, but all...

    Vintage Delta Band Saw?

Not sure what to tell you, but numerous sources confirm that Delta Machinery was indeed purchased by Rockwell in 1945. Mine is a 1952 and says Rockwell Manufacturing, Delta Division on the serial number tag, but Delta Milwaukee on the upper wheel cover. Tom

    Vintage Delta Band Saw?

The pre 1945 models were Delta or Delta/Milwaukee (as in made in Milwaukee). They sold to Rockwell in 1945 and very little changed design wise. Most of those 14" band saws sell for $300-$400, a bit more for the metal cutting version with a two speed gearbox. They are a good basic saw. Tom

    Tiling a backsplash in kitchen

Read the directions on the mastic you intend to use. The stuff I used was intended for bare drywall. If it was painted, it needed to be roughed up with sandpaper before application. Tom
