Columbian 4" bench vise-welded not cast

I opted for a refurbishment, in lieu of restoration, as this is not meant for a museum. I did the electrolysis thing, that I picked up on from reading GJ. I was shocked at how well it worked. Cleaned it right up. Then primed, painted and lubed, ready to rock. Don't judge me for my color...

Show your Kraeuter tools / Info

Picked this up today. Not even sure what it is. But it says Kraeuter 1841 - 6 1/2.

The Unofficial Vise Parts Swap Thread.

I found a base for this vise! But I was missing the right bolt (different threads) to attach it to the vise. So I made a bolt, and bushing, that works so it is fully functional. However, I might still be interested if anyone has an "original" Athol 7/8" shoulder bolt with the odd-ball 12...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

This is how I made a bolt to fit in an old vise with non-standard threads. I picked up an Athol 624 ½ several weeks ago at an Estate sale. It was missing it’s swivel base. I managed to find a Starrett base that fit. Athol and Starrett are related, so the base off of a Starrett 624 ½ fit on...

    Athol swivel base

I posted in the "parts swap" thread already, but I'll add here too in case someone searches "Athol Swivel Base" and finds this thread. I have a Athol 624 1/2 that is missing the swivel base and all accompanying parts. I know its a long shot, but if there's a broken 624 1/2 out there somewhere...

I have an Athol 624 1/2 but it is missing the swivel base. I'm looking for the swivel base and associated parts...Any ideas?

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Ok, thanks, that's good to know. Mine looks similar. After considering it more, I think I'll keep the original jaw plates. Besides, there are some minor dings and saw marks that match up across the parts...giving it character and telling its story. That retaining ring doesn't need to withstand...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I picked up a Columbian 804 (which I identified after seeing another thread on GJ) at an estate sale yesterday. I was in the process of disassembling and cleaning it today when I noticed the split ring (?) retaining the main screw to the dynamic jaw was cracked. I have never made this repair...

Columbian 4" bench vise-welded not cast

I just picked one of these up today at an estate sale for $15. Bolted to a workbench in a run down work shack near the doorway (no doors) exposed to the elements. (Not uncommon in Texas). I found this thread while trying to determine the model. After reading these threads and seeing the...
