    Improving basic dust collector

I finally added dust collection to my Unisaw last winter. Did a pretty decent thread on one of the woodworking forums, Lumberjocks or Router Forum IIRC. I had been struggling with the idea of spending dumb $$ on the fugly ABS egg or rectangular covers, so instead I kept a lookout for an outdoor...

    Truss Modification for Car Lift

Thank You; so I understand fully - you wouldn't mod the trusses or add scissor trusses sistered in at all? In other words, live with the roof as is?

    Truss Modification for Car Lift

In the midst of laying out an oversized triple car garage (41x25) workshop....with only 8 ft height from the bottom of trusses to the floor. Am going to include at least one 2 post asymetrical hoist/lift in the plans, since there is a 67 Camaro the owner wants me to finish restoring for him once...

Installing pressure switch on air compressor: dry threads, teflon tape, anti-seize, Loctite?

I've found dope to be superior to teflon (both orange and white) tape in terms of installation time and offers better lubricity and smaller interference for the threads, which is the reason they don't tighten properly most of the time. The rough iron finish on all the thread faces is a challenge...

    Compressor air lines

Thank you for the info. The garage has low point/angle runs on the main lines. The drops each incorporate a ball valve at the bottom for moisture release and a tee about 4 ft above the floor for the lines instead of the top loop, due to less than 7 ft ceiling height.

    Compressor air lines

Starting to plan out a 41 x 25 ft 3 bay garage renovation, thus currently lurking around several air line threads; this one got me interested enough to comment. The 1/2" vs. 3/4" line diameter (ID) conversation (run length influenced) is as common as the debate about choice of materials in...

    Bevel on Jigsaw

My Bosch plug in has been getting a workout and I did use the 45* bevel on both sides (!) this week to match the bottom of a panel to a steel bracket I made. This 20+ year old saw has the allen key and positive stops bevel setup built in.

    Bosch Jigsaw Blade Chart

Thx Lee G; Just broke a blade for the first time in ages, necessitating a look into said drawer. The Ikea style pictorials and symbols give my OCD and ADD the shudders, so your effort is most helpful and appreciated. Fun fact- learned they have blades for curved cuts.....who knew just forcing...

    Snap On ratchet handle preference?

I have chrome, soft and hard plastic handled ratchets. For super dirty work I prefer the chromes as they clean up perfectly, and I'm likely wearing gloves anyways. The feel of the plastic Snap On or similar handles is usually more ergonomic and comfortable, not mention they insulate your hands...

    Hole saw recs?

You haven't lived until you cut a 6" hole thru the carpet, plastic and metal of a 70s era American car door in one shot with a 1/2" 120V corded old school Metabo or Makita drill. We used to do this frequently at the car audio shop I worked at in the 80s. Barbarism, excitement and danger all at...

    Newer Craftsman Tool Boxes

I have dozens of tool boxes and chests of various ages and from various manufacturers incl Snap On, Matco, Kennedy, Craftsman standard and pro versions, Mastercraft, Beech, Harbor Freight/US General Series 1 and 2, Gladiator, Kobalt, Gray, Husky and a few others that escape my memory. I was...

    Best heat shrimk electrical tape?

I have installed car and boat audio systems for over 40 yrs. 3:1 or 4:1 marine grade heatshrink with built in sealant is the way to go. Still likely won't last forever, given the salt and harsh environment. I have also snowmobiled for 30 yrs, so I know all about trailer wiring and corrosion lol...

Help Needed: Fixing a Too-Large Hole in My Gas Can Vent

Bulkhead fittings typically require a retaining nut under them. Unlikely you will have access. The incompatibility between the various plastics, sealers and gaskets makes those a non starter in my mind. If the wall thickness of the jug/can is sufficient, a pipe threaded fitting made of brass...

    Mat for a work bench??

I have 5 of the craft/hobby/self healing cutting mats in several sizes. The green ones come in at below $20/CAD for the 32x24 size, double sided for extended life. I use them on top of most work surfaces incl. toolbox bamboo top, mdf and stainless steel. Have never worn one out. They clean up...

Atlas FM9SL Scissor Lift Flush-Mount Install

I wired my garage for 240V to run the compressor, heater, welder, plasma cutter, table saw, drill press (you see where I'm going? lol) and then use an RV extension cord for the lift. The two "hot" lines are 120V each, just from separate sides of the main panel. Easy peasy actually. Of course you...
