I used a suspended ceiling in my last metal studded build.
A laser level to sight the metal track on the stud as you did, and then begin building the metal grid to span from side to side. Wire supports the grid off of the ceiling joists (in my case, off of the concrete ceiling).
This is something to think about.
On this device the pneumatic tire is the entire suspension. Replacing with solid tires will increase the stress on the frame and require beefing up the joints or the joints will fail.
Probably not the issue you are having here but for others, make sure you dust off the walls prior to painting. The drywall compound dust will make it hard for the paint to stick. Just a quick brush with a broom can help.
I’ve had the best luck just using a sawzall and a long metal cutting blade. It will just slice through the nails and I’ll leave the nails in as accents.
Maybe I'm not thinking enough, but couldn't you just use the lightweight bracket and keep a couple of 4x4s on hand when you want to hold up an engine block?
