Removing Bent Screw Studs from Aluminum

Thanks for all the responses guys. I ended up using my TIG for this (miller diversion 180 I got on auction), set at 80A as Beerhippie recommended. I cut the stud down a bit to minimize the amount the shaft was bent, and got a 7/16 nut to screw down a bit. I ended up using just a bit of ER70S...

Removing Bent Screw Studs from Aluminum

Thank you guys for the responses. I was hoping you’d just tell me I get to buy another tool! I’ll MiG a nut on tomorrow. I have a Tig welder but I’m not confident enough with it. I’ll update once I battle with it a bit more. Here’s the project in question, 2004 Yamaha Bruin 350 I got from a...

Removing Bent Screw Studs from Aluminum

Thank you for the reply. I was a bit weary of using heat because I didn’t want to warp the bearing seat in the center. I will probably try heat, the maybe some vertical vise grips tomorrow.

Removing Bent Screw Studs from Aluminum

Hi all, Any ideas to remove these bent screw studs from an ATV engine cover? My extractor kit just torqued the heads off. Since the screws are deeper inside, I can’t get vise grips perpendicular to the stud. Thank you for any suggestions!

    Miller Plasma Cutter Electronics Help

Thankfully I got this machine for $100, so I’m not in the hole already. I wouldn’t be willing to spend over 3-4 hundred dollars on a circuit board for a machine that already works (I just hooked it up to air, cleaned the torch components and got it to cut up to 3/16 mild steel at 35 amps). At...

    Miller Plasma Cutter Electronics Help

Thanks for all the input. In your guys opinion, is this a “do it ASAP” replacement or a “when you get around to it” thing?

    Miller Plasma Cutter Electronics Help

Wow, thank you for the detailed answer. Posts like yours are the reason I read these forums. I really appreciate it. For now, I’ll probably use as-is…and hope that my 50A breaker would trip before a power surge would destroy my machine. Down the line I’ll look at replacing it. I’m trying to...

    Miller Plasma Cutter Electronics Help

Hi All, I am trying to get an older Miller Spectrum 625 up and running. I took off the cover to blow out the dust and saw a blown something-or-other on a small circuit board attached to the power cable. Does anyone know what the blown part is supposed to be? Maybe a small capacitor of some...

need ELECTRIC right angle die grinder recommendations

I have the Bosch RA (12V cordless). Great tool, I use it constantly with a flap disc and wire wheel. But the battery life is terrible with the 2ah batteries. So be it. Very nice to have no cords or hoses to wrangle. Ive used it to prep metal for welding but only small areas. It’s amazing for...

    1966 Saylor-Beall Compressor “Restoration”

Yep, I have more of a Frankenstein air compressor I guess! No worries. It was $150. The pump works just fine. I just got some fittings and a pressure regulator from Milton. I need to replace the hose that goes from the pump to the fitting on the tank. It looks like a radiator hose…! And it’s...

    1966 Saylor-Beall Compressor “Restoration”

Hi All, Just got a 1966 Saylor-Beall air compressor, and I plan on cleaning it up a bit and using it around the shop. See below for pictures! I’ll probably have to add a pressure relief valve, a pressure cutoff switch, and I may re-wire for 220. I plan to draw on your guys’ knowledge for some...

    Help with Floor Jack Rebuild

Well, I just keep rearranging the check balls until I got it to pump the piston (finally). However, once I push the piston about halfway back into the cyclinder/reservoir, it stops and won’t budge. I’ve bled the Jack a few times. What causes this? Too much fluid?

Good call. I’ll check on that tomorrow. I’m slowly getting more convinced I have the balls out of order unfortunately.

    Help with Floor Jack Rebuild

I’m trying to rebuild my ProLift 3.5 Ton G-737 floor Jack, and I’m having a heck of a time. Hoping some of you smarter mechanics can lend me some advice. I’ve replaced all the seals with a rebuild kit, but when I go to pump the Jack, nothing happens. The oil level is correct, and I’ve tried to...
