This is the definition of "overpriced"

They'll be way overpriced because we are such a small market and so far away it makes it very difficult to stock a wide range and still turn a profit. Hence tools cost a fortune, especially from America. To put it in perspective somewhat, a decent set of diagonal cutters (Klein or Channellock)...

    Extensions with Good Knurling

Not sure if they're available in the US, but these ones by Koken are great for what you're talking about. Hard to make out exactly in the pic but they have ridges on the knurled part to make it easier to grip

    Is this "shill bidding"?

As Bolster says, the chances of going over when bidding like this are negligible, as long as you bid the minimum increment. The only way they would be caught out is if your highest bid was equal to the where the minimum bid hits. For example my max bid is 36, the shill would bid 33, see my bid...

    Bahco Shifters

Yep, in Aus they call them shifters, here in NZ they're most commonly referred to as crescents (irrespective of the brand of the actual tool).

Hmmm. I wonder what 90k get you...

Who would buy a $20,000 box 6 months before retiring?

    What tools do foreigners use?

Here in New Zealand, we have Snap-on trucks just like everywhere, snap-on is known for its quality obviously but is even more expensive in the US, if thats possible. The other truck brands are virtually unheard of, i cant off the top of my head say that ive seen any of those brands in the flesh...

    TopTul vs. Teng ProTools

I've never used or even seen any Toptul, so i cant comment on them, but i must say i absolutely despise Teng. Somehow they'va managed to get a reputation as quality tools, especially in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, but unless they have another line that i've never seen i just dont...

    My new (homemade) toolbox

Thanks guys for the feedback. To answer some of the questions, Billymade, it wont have any specialist tools in it, i'm an electrician working in the fuel industry at the moment so just regular tools. You're right it almost does seem a shame to use it, but i can fix it or rebuild it if it gets...

    My new (homemade) toolbox

More of a lurker than a poster on these boards, but i've just completed my latest project and i'd thought i'd share. The basic dimensions are (roughly) 50" wide, 24" high and 22" deep. The drawers on the left are 28"wide, the top two being 2" deep and the other four 3" deep. The drawers on the...

    Tools for Beer?

So what sort of beer was it? If it was Speights then its a good deal, Steiny pure or anything Macs or Monteiths i'd rather have the beer!

    New 3/8" Set purchase :)

Have a few Koken tool, a couple of ratchets and some sockets. They are very good tools and a decent alternative to the likes of Snap-On - especially price-wise. They are pretty much the only brand that i would consider quality that are widely available in New Zealand (other than Snap-On). The...

    switching a 220 circuit

Will be expensive and difficult if you run the main feeds for the compressor across the shop[ and back again. Most common way to achieve this sort of "remote switching" si to have the compressor controlled by a contactor, with a circuit off the the contactor coil across to your remote switch...

    What's Your Favorite Wrench?

Stahlwille, open box 13. I know these arn't common in the States, but where i'm from they are universally acknowledged as the top of the wrench-tree. Above even (dare i say it?) Snap-On.

    Gimmicky Tools

Don't know if you guys have ever seen one, but i have a hammer that has a recess and magnet on the top of the head to slot your nail into, so the point sticks out about 1/2" from the hammer face. The idea is to get your nail started without having to hold it - and risk hitting your thumb...

    cordless batteries

Cool link. I've got a few dead DeWalt 18v batteries lying around so i'll try this out to see if i can get 1 or 2 good ones out of the junk ones. Will post how it goes.
