    Hardwood flooring filler

I'm putting down "rustic" hickory flooring for my woodshop. Needless to say, rustic means lots of knot holes, cracks, and width variance. Anyone have any experience with the products on the market? Please advise.

Best Woodshop AC and Heating Options

I get it when it comes to radiant heat, but have decided against it because of two factors: #1 It takes too long to heat from dead cold (do not think I want to heat all the time); and #2 It would cost nearly $6700 to install. The propane option is around $2400. The mini split both heats and cools.

Best Woodshop AC and Heating Options

My shop building is underway (24x32), but I haven't purchased heating or cooling equipment. How reliable and efficient are the mini split systems is a dusty environment. What kind of filtration would be best for fine particulate dust? I have been considering a ceiling suspended propane blower...

    Sill plate capillary break

Finally broke ground a while back on a two level garage/workshop 24 x 32. The ground is sloped so that the shop floor is even with the yard and the driveway is sloped so that you enter the garage below. The front wall (yard level) is cement filled block about nine feet high. The rear wall...

    Heat

I looked at several systems, but for the cost decided to go with propane to a ceiling suspended blower with a contained combustion box. Use on demand and is quick to heat the space if well insulated.

    When to apply osb

I'm building a 2x6 load bearing wall. I have already cut, drilled, and bolted down a pressure treated 2x8 bottom plate to block with 1/2" anchor bolts. The bottom sill will be one block height above the slab surface. I plan to remove the bottom plate and assemble my wall unit on the flat dirt...

    Wood shop heating and cooling

Norm likes hydronic but I'm having a hard time with the initial outlay. I'm in Hickory NC, and while we do have winter, it is usually on the mild side. I'm more concerned about cooling in the summer, which can be toasty. I read where condensation would be an issue if one tries to run chill...

    What about windows?

I've lined up a 16x7 1/2 insulated garage door with one row of windows. Any thoughts for additional windows? Building a wood shop 26x40x10 with 8ft attic trusses, the garage door on the gable end.

    Loft stairs, inside or out?

Thanks for all the pros and cons, guys. I think I will likely go with inside as I will likely bring water out (200ft from house) and will place the utility sink and commode under the stairs. Really like the idea of an opening with a winch or block and tackle in the middle, too.

    Loft stairs, inside or out?

Thanks for all pros and cons guys. My final decision is likely going to be inside as I want to bring out water (200 ft from house) and will place the utility sink and commode under the stairs.

    Loft stairs, inside or out?

I am preparing to build a woodworking shop/garage 30x40 with a double garage door on the front gable end. I plan to have a loft with load bearing trusses and am trying to decide whether to place the stairs inside or build a landing with exterior stairs and a rear entry door. I plan to use the...

    loft stairs

Oops, wrong neighborhood....will post to general. And btw, I am new to the forum, but not new to woodworking in tight spaces. Started with a basement corner, then to a single car garage. I moved up to large 2 car with everything on wheels and began making maloof style rockers. Moved 3 yrs ago...
