I got the last line set for the master bedroom ran down the wall and under the house, then we finished drywall in that room. Also finished the kitchen area. Only thing left to do now is the stairwell area but I need to get some nice 4x4 posts for the railing first. I'm bolting the upstairs ones solid against those 12" I-joists while that section of ceiling is still open.

Earlier this week I cut down a standing dead ash tree.......I have a few around here. This morning I hauled the main trunk part down to a local guy that has one of those portable sawmills. And a few hours later I went back and picked up some wood!!! The 4x4 posts are going to be the posts for the stair railing. And a couple other of these 2x12's will be transformed into a nice sitting bench for my son's porch.

I set my ladder back up on the scaffolding and hung the top portion of the stairwell today. I also utilized some scraps and started under the staircase as well. This will get a door and become useful storage.

I cant completely finish the drywall until all the wood in the vaulted ceiling area is done. The reason is because I need to rest my walkboards across the stairs and on the 2x6 screwed to the wall. BUT...all those pieces are cut and ready to hang. All the rest is done and I'm now helping my wife with tape and mud.

Today, while my wife was tapin' and muddin', I mixed up some thinset and buried some mesh tape on the Durock in both bathrooms. I mixed the first little bit with a paint paddle.........it took FOREVER!!! So I grabbed a TIG filler rod and bent this little guy up for the drill. It works like a champ!

I thought I'd be time ahead to mix another small batch of thinset the other day so it would be ready for me........I put the lid on the gallon bucket and everything.......DOH!! I guess I thought it wouldn't 'dry' :lol_hitti. Well, I have a nice little boat anchor, or maybe a quick canopy weight. ANYWAY,....I grabbed another gallon bucket and mixed up some more thinset and went over most of those joints again this evening.

It's been standing dead for over 2 years......you think it might still be sappy? I have a moisture meter, I'll check 'em out.

Edit: I checked the boards. They range from 28-39% moisture!! I never would have thunk!!

Standing dead trees don't know that they are dead.
Capillary action will keep pulling moisture out of the ground.

Even a sawn log sitting on the ground, end grain down, will take much longer to season.

Wife and I got a solid 20 hours EACH in this holiday weekend. These pics don't look much different but MOST of the upstairs is ready for final sanding and touch ups. The whole house will be level 4 smooth wall finish. Both tub and shower areas are ready for a bit of thinset sanding and waterproofing. And here are some numbers...........to my amazement! Who'd a thunk ?!!

101 sheets 1/2" drywall
12 sheets mold resistant drywall
10 pcs 3x5 1/2" Durock
1 roll fiber tape
3 rolls paper tape
18# of 1 1/4 drywall screws
3# of 1 5/8 drywall screws
22 pcs of 8ft corner bead
6 (5 gal) buckets of joint mud
1 (50#) bag thinset

I just got tired from thinking about PWC and his wife moving 113 sheets of drywall.

I know........and we moved it 3 times! Once at big orange onto our carts, then again in the parking lot onto out trailer, then again into my son's house. It WAS 3 different trips though.

Aren't you glad it wasn't 5/8"?

YEP! I had thought about 5/8" just for the ceilings, but my old house has rafters 2ft oc and we redid the living room almost 30 years ago with 1/2" and there is no bowing or ripples in my ceiling.
That's actually kind of surprising.

Our whole house was done in 5/8" when we remodeled and added a 2nd story in 1993. 16" OC.

I know, because everything you read says that's too much span on a ceiling for 1/2" rock. I'm thinking weight of blown in........moisture issues from improper venting.....or maybe old school nails with no screws........all I can say is mine has never given issues.

Edit: might be hard to see but here is my living room ceiling with camera held right up at the ceiling......it's 22ft long. any waviness is simply the rough cut sight built rafters from 1958 LOL!

No pics from this weekend, just more mudding around jambs and corners one day, then 6.5 solid hours of sanding the next.......I can barely move my arms!

This whole weekend will be mud, sand, flashlight, touch up mud, sand............you get the idea. Small bedroom has been touched up and ready to hand sand with screen. Master bedroom (i think) is all touched up and ready for hand sanding with screen. And upstairs bath is now ready for power sanding and then touch ups.

Just got cleaned up after sanding all day. That mud dust makes my hair feel like steel wool! Small bedroom is ready for primer. Upsatairs bath is ready for primer. The hall area upstairs is ready for primer. I've started inside the closet of the master bedroom and should complete it tomorrow. That will put the whole upstairs ready to primer!!!! I feel like we finally got somewhere. This whole tape/mud/sand thing is getting old already!
