Had a bit of an epihany last night on the CNC project and turns out it worked out
There is a tool length probe (BitSetter) where the bit touches off on a contact sensor 2x to set the tool length and it was consistently off in terms of the XY location when it tried to come down for the touch. Didn't matter how many times I ran the setup wizard, got it perfectly centered....once it was out of the setup wizard and time to touch off a tool it was attempting it about 3/4" off in the Y axis....but it was consistent.
So I realized after far too much frustration if I can't get it to return to the correct location....well just just adjust where I'm setting it up in the wizard to account for it's phantom movement. So reran the setup wizard, adjusted the location...then tried to run it "live" for a tool length and voila it was where it needed to be. Irritates me this is what I needed to do and can't figure out why it won't hold the correct Y position....but if it does this consistently that'll work....until it doesn't
(2) significant screw ups in the below in regards to the machine/program....some design related items as well but start with the setup
The "divot" to the right was the initial run and the result of the V-bit plunging down....someone didn't reset the Z zero at the workpiece top after rerunning a setup wizard. Shortened the board 4" to fix that one
2nd issue was the depth of cut on the perimeter bit was a bit aggressive...just went with their stock settings...live and learn. Combined with the collet not being tight enough had the bit pull out in the first perimeter pass. Stopped the program, reset the bit tighter, made a new program for just the perimeter at 30% less depth of cut and ran it again
I left about .050" of material at the bottom, wasn't brave enough to try "tabs" or little nubs of material it intentionally leaves to hold the workpiece together on the first project. Roundover pattern bit in the router table fixed the leftover material fast enough. Still need to cut out the handle, round that over, clean up the lettering a bit and then sand and finish
