Nah. Out-growing things is optional. 'Specially if they still work.

The tape-on-a-wrench approach did occasionally let me down. And, I'm just a fool for tools.

Snap-On ratchet repair tool. SPP744 For removing/installing those pesky balls under the pawl. Makes working on you ratchet alot easier.

Yes, my own idea was that it was for when you just want to shorten - leaving a bit for further tightening, or to permit refitting reusable ties.

It appears to be discontinued. It's not Merry's own site, just on Factory Gear Japan store's website here listed as "made to order" for $172.

I guess with there being so many options for straight, 45deg, and end flush cutters, the only niche that needs this plier is shortening reusable cable ties.

I used to keep a pair of toe nail clippers in a portable kit for cutting cable ties. Works pretty well and leaves a slight radius cut.
