My shopvac had a hard life for the first decade, and I'm sure it was abused. I "donated" it to my Grandparents' place in '89 so it probably had water left in it many times.

@SilverJimmy showed off the filter bags (his look practically new).
I like your idea of using a band clamp instead.

I'm following along on your tiling project -- that box blade should make short work of the grading. You've got a pretty good set of attachments for your JD, ready for your retirement and moving to the farm.

Shop vac base needs washed to try to remove the rust...on the "to-do" list...not enough hours currently in the day nor days in week.

I'm going try to get back on the tiling tomorrow or Tuesday....been dry here so I hope I can get it finished. Then the backhoe comes off for grading.

I'd think about just covering the rust stains.
Would spray paint for plastic work?
But the base is like a rubber/plastic compound, so maybe Flex Seal would work better.
(maybe it's not such a great idea after all...)

Not sure. I have to break out the power washer later today, I will try it with some scrubbing to see what happens, maybe 5 minute fix ? If not, it'll be fine as is.

I ended up just using water, scrub brush and Simple Green.



Giving the rest of it a quick wipe with Simple Green and it's good enough for me.

Got tired of walking from one side of the garage to get a pair of nitrile gloves so I picked up another glove dispenser from HF, along with a box of gloves.


Since dispenser is larger than the boxes, I filled the space with some polyiso insulation like the others.

No pictures but I did check out the tiling project at my parents this morning. I put a rodent guard in the end of the solid pipe. I also took the axe and pole pruner. I cut back a bunch of low hanging limbs so the Sun hits the grass to further aid in future drying up. I must say, granted it hasn't rained for a week but the ground is drying out very nice.

I changed the oil/filter in the JD 2032R so it's ready to get back to work over there. I also shortened a pre-made 20' chain down to 13'.

I wanted to go fourteen feet but it wasn't going to easily fit in FEL chain holder. That's 4' longer than I had previously stowed away.

Off and on, I have worked on a little project for work. Our 2005 KME Ladder Tower needs some reworking on the electronic side if things. Basically, upgrading the hardware for ladder controls.

I believe I showed these pics in the "pics from work" thread.


Some of the stuff no longer needed.


Mind you, I'm only providing a helping hand in this particular assignment.

We have a new display panel going into the operator station on the turntable. The old display fit inside the square hole. That's the sunshade sitting below.


The two placards to the left, rung lights and evacuation stay in place. But hey, take a picture to remember which wire goes where.

Rung lights are blue clearance lights in the inside of the 100' ladder. Basically runway lights for nighttime or heavy smoke conditions.

Evacuation is a button for the air horn. We use a long air horn blast for interior crews to rapidly exit a burning structure, usually this means conditions have changed for the worse. Also known as the GTFO button.


In lieu of all those lights cut in the previous post, there's two displays going in. I did some modifications to that panel in my garage.

Back to the turntable display. I tried to fab up a mount for the new display, not wanting to touch the load limit decal.


In the end, the plug on the display made it not work out.

So, this is where we're at now. I had to cut the panel anyway. A new load limit placard is getting made.

Sitting in the hole is the wood template I built for mock up. I go back to work tomorrow and I'll see how it fits with the actual display module.

I think some trimming will be required as I believe the back edge has a taper on it.

I’m a little surprised they let you work on the rig like that. That was taboo in our department. We didn’t touch anything anything. If There’s a problem bring it to the shop lol. Although most of the time the rig would disappear for a long time when that happened.

Well for starters, the chief himself is doing the work. He also worked for KME on the side as a field tech and was a mechanic in a former life. The Ladder Tower will also go through annual ladder testing once it's back in operation. We try to work on what we can as we have no dedicated FD mechanic for the city. . . No fire apparatus shop.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the shed door was having an issue. The coil stock that I wrapped the door with at the bottom was dragging on the concrete. After some investigations, I found out that the wood inside had rotted.

Today was the day to fix it or so I thought. This is what found after some trim removal.

Here's the 2x4 and 1x4 that sandwiched the plywood.

I thought maybe, just maybe, I'd just need to replace the 2x4. Nope, not today. Since I couldn't leave the shed like this...


I had to put the door back on for now.

But I did take some measurements first.

I also made a shopping list and made an emergency run to Menards get some supplies.

I got started building a new door.


I had to stop work as the wife and I had plans. The internal frame is done. Glued and screwed.

I think theres one over in Twinsburg, but I can't speak for their work or anything like that. It just seems to come to mind that one setup shop there in an old truck repair place years ago. Then again, I could completely be mis-remembering that.

Yes, just bricks and poured the pad a few months ago. It sits close but I think it should have been fine...I believe the issue was wrapping the entire bottom with coil stock, which allowed it to hold water. Since it couldn't dry out, it made a nice haven for insects.
