Today 1/8" hex brass stock arrived fron PM research, and I immediately started making bolts that clamp the vise on the swiveling base. I played with serrated jaws as well. Not sure I will keep the brass ones or will make it from steel. I also need sharper point to cut such a small serrations.

After a few month of waiting I received my steel cast parts. I am machining it now and plan to make a dozen miniature vises soon. In addition I make a video of every operation, and will upload it to YouTube while finished.

Slow progress. Due to tight tolerances it is hard to make smooth operations with key installed. But I will make it work. All swiveling bases machined, all stationary jaws reamed and key slots are done as well. I am cutting key slots in the round part of moving jaw.

Yesterday I machined tubes OD to 0.374" 1 5hou is a good tolerance for the moving jaw. I also finished all nuts and cleaned cast nut housings. Today I cut 3/32"key stock, and check how front jaw moves. I also ream the front jaw cast part then press fit it to the tube.. after this operation finished I will turn the pocket to accomodate the main screw.

I am adjusting the action. It moves smooth. I take my time.
I think I speak for all of us that taking your time is certainly worth it. You are doing an incredible job on those nano bullets. If your first round of sales is not advertised on the open market, please let the few of us here know about it. Thanks. 🙏

I drilled #62 holes in the moving jaw. Now tapping #00-90 is following. I use an extra precaution while tapping. Little mistake can not only cause broken tap but also a headache of removing it from the part. While taps are done next step is retaining plate.

I purchased forming taps instead of cutting one I had. I also made a small jig to keep the tap aligned to the hole. I tried with the spindle of the drill press while driving belt is out but the spindle is too massive to feel what is the torque on the tap plus the quill is sring loaded, and it does not helps. With this new jig I am able to form all tiny threads without braking the tap. Handling this little screws #00-90 is another problem. I already lost two. There is no chance I will ever find it, and they aren't cheap. After I finish with plates and threads I will mill both jaws to accomodate serrated inserts.

All jaws milled. Now I will tap a pair of #0-80 threads in each jaw and will make serrated inserts with counter bores.

For now these are just pilot products but I will keep you informed when I start making production batare considering selling the castings, and not just the finished vise

This is a pilot batch from aluminum bronze. This is a same alloy used for receivers in old rifles. Future vises will have steel cast bodies.
Are you planning on selling the castings, or finished miniatures? I'd be interested in buying the unfinished castings as a model machining project.

All castings I have right now are in work. I may consider another batch of castings depending on demand. Thank you for your interest!

I finished making handles. There are 4-5 operation remain until mechanical work done. I should make a decision to paint or not to paint. Or I will paint a few just to look how it is. I wander black or hammered grey?

They will surely be good looking at both.

Nice work making these and glad to hear you sold out your first editions. Would you make any changes to the following ones or do you have everything just about perfect?

I am starting a new project of making a miniature Wilton bullet vise. I got a real Wilton 825 vise, disassembled it, took all measurements and made a 3D model. Then 3D printed parts 1/4 of a full scale, tested that everything fits together. Next step was making silicone molds, cutting the molds and filling it with wax. It took a few nonth. Yesterday using investment casting I got a pair of bronze sets. I am goung to machine these cast parts and finally build a miniature Wilton vise. It is my first posting but I will frequently report my progress in the future.

Miniature Wilton vise project may be rejuvenated. But this time with the twist. I want to try mounting vises on a miniature power arm. The project is on early stage. I am checking if I could make such a small power arm. At least I know I can make such a small vise. Here are first wax models of the Power arm junior I injected.
