Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT Glemans Foibles in Florida

I've been back at the MI house for the last month and things have been moving along with no big surprises.

Rained out the first week.

Heavy snows raised the lake quite a bit and I lost about a third of the front lawn.



Smoked out for another week.



The well decided it didn't want to prime itself this year.



Thankfully, I got it working after a day of messing with it. I'll have to start a pump fund and be ready for replacing.

My hillbilly hot tub sprung a air leak and the patches provided wouldn't hold for love or money.





I ended up using Oatey Medium Grey PVC cement.



Hold fine ever since.

My utility room is unfinished and hard to use and kinda dank.
It's become a dumping ground and I'm hoping to bring it back to usability.

Old chemicals and paint that have been around too long.



Not a lot of clearance.



The faucet has seen better days.

I moved the shelving out and went thru chems and tossed a lot of them.

Faucet was replaced and tub cleaned.




Next on the list is finishing the outer wall.



Maybe get some more light in there. I have a few of those Bernia led strips and I'll see if I can squeeze them in.



And I'll have a go at flipping the door.

One of the reasons for cleaning up a utility room is I want to get back into small scale home brewing and distilling.

I haven't homebrewed in twenty years and I've always missed it a little bit.

I went and rescued the demijohns I had saved over the years. All those trips to the wineries finally paid off!



I've started getting dedicated gear for this project.



Scale, funnels, siphon, hydrometer, air locks and stoppers.

Yeasts, cleaner and sanitizers.

I installed two sets of blinds this morning and had about 1/4" too much side-to-side play for the supplied brackets.

Spacers were made.



I had an audience!



I had to do the googling as it was about finger length.

Seems to be a grass spider, I sent it back to lawn.
I always wondered about the webs on the lawn. Turns out it was one of these.

I'm going to try one of those Digiboils.



I have room in the barn and I have space to run a 240 circuit.

I'd like to drop in a well but a tap is only 150' away.

I figure I can do a 5 gallon batch of basic brew and try my hand at distilling. I'm not looking at setting up a huge system.

I do have a Bayou Classic turkey fryer that doesn't get used. I may bring it up next summer if the Digi isn't cutting it.

I may have built a stove using an Erlenmeyer flask, copper coil, and sterno burner in high school.

Mom and dad were not pleased when the kitchen table was found to have a burn mark in the Formica.

I’m really not a fan of working above my head with a lift or not so congrats on your success.

It’s good to try and make your own beverages and grow your own food do best of luck with that.

I ended up getting stuck with the family cabin that you see in the Michigan pics. We've been slowly upgrading it since 1985. I've had two since 95. I finished the Michigan mortgage in 05.

My sister and I were raised with having two houses from our parents. We grew up having to spend weekends fixing the fixer-upper so it's not really a big deal to juggle work for the two. Planning is gold.

I'm hoping to get the Florida mortgage done this year and finishing on the barn interior this summer.

Being in Florida, see if you can get orange blossom honey. Makes an exceptional mead.

I used to belong to a homebrew club and one of the members made meads. She made this one with a very slight amount of carbonation (not still). Nice golden orange color. Extremely fine bubbles that almost sizzled on your tongue. Was very similar in flavor to Drambuie.

I don't know yet. I just wanted to get the ferment started.

I've got about six weeks before I leave and I'm leaning on bottling it dry and letting it finish while I'm gone. That should give it about nine months to finish.

The basement, where the bottles will live should average about 54℉ over the fall and winter.

I'll keep and eye out when I hit the farmers markets and I'll see if I can source some. I like the drambuie taste.

I got some Rubbermaid storage for the garage.

I wanted to hang my OPE equipment in the garage as opposed to keeping it in the barn and having to walkout farther.





I need some more hooks for the bar and I kinda like the panels so I'll get a few more.
