    looking for a tool

It's maybe 3/16" dia. The problem with using a file is that the post are too close together to make it easy to get around them. IF I could spin them it'd be easy to trim them down with a file. I'm wondering if Dremal makes a bit that's conical inside, that would work. .

    looking for a tool

I'm looking for a tool that I don't know if it exist or if it does what it's called. I'll try to describe what I'm looking for; Think about a tapered reamer or a countersink that will bevel the inside of a hole. Now think about the opposite, something that'll bevel the outside of a round...

7th Annual SECRET SANTA on Garage Journal - Opening Thread!

I'm really glad to know you got OK. I hadn't seen your post until I posted a question asking about it. I'm glad you like it, I figured just about any guy could a good set of precision screwdrivers and a clock is always handy and I thought I'd mount a nice old vacuum tube since that's one of my...

7th Annual SECRET SANTA on Garage Journal - Opening Thread!

Is it common to never hear from the GJ member you sent a secret santa gift to? I've heard nothing, I sent him a PM asking if he got it, still nothing. Maybe he didn't like it, too bad, I put a lot of thought into it. Does anyone know, KSB, Kris Brunton in Ontario, Canada? Thanks. .

    Data plate for 1918 radio

I'm working on the preservation of a 1918 Navy receiver, unfortunately the cabinet for it is missing. I think I can fab a cabinet it's just a box that holds the panel where all the radio parts are mounted. The main problem is the name tag/data plate is mounted on the side of the box. I have...

Huge tools. have any that you use or hang on a wall (no **** please)

I don't have a pix of it right now, but th biggest tool in my shop is a 36" Rigid pipe wrench that I bought at the Shelby Hamfest a few years ago, the guy had $15 marked on it, I offered $10 and he took it. I thought it was a great deal even if I never used it except for garage art. :rocker:

    Thread files

Can anyone give me an idea where I can buy thread files? I've searched Northern Tool, Harbor Frieght, WT Tool, etc and so far no one has them. I don't know for sure what thread pitch I need, what I need it for is cleaning up the threads on the binding posts on a 1918 IP-500 which was a Navy...

Who the heck would SCRAP THIS??? Oh well, mine now!

The company, don't remember the name used to send out samples of the aluminum extrusion that were about 1" thick and 4" square. I had one sitting on my bench for a long time, kinda neat looking. I think it's buried in one of the boxes in the storage section of my garage. Great find on the...

Garage wall art from Jay Leno's garage?

I'm in love with Jay's garage, I would love to see it in person. My dream would be to have the antique radio version of Jay Leno's Garage. Oh to have walls that high to put some nice enlarged radio advertising on. I looked at a couple of the mural links and they do some killer stuff. .

Master night shutdown switch for shop

Speaking of smoke alarms I have an idea for a smoke alarm, with modern electronics I'd like to have a set of smoke alarms that communicated with each other maybe via blue tooth or 2.4ghz like routers use, so that when one alarmed they would all alarm. Maybe the one sensing the smoke would make a...

Master night shutdown switch for shop

I like master switches, I have one on the outlet circuit in my garage workshop and also one on the outlet circuit in my radio collection display room. All the outlets in the room run through one master switch. I like knowing everything is off when I leave.
