I've used an Amprobe 15XP-B meter at work (not automotive). It's just a basic multimeter but it's well built and has nice features including long leads and a magnetic hanger. They have an automotive model Amprobe AU92 that looks decent: http://content.amprobe.com/DataSheets/AU92.pdf
