Things you've learned, life lessons in the shop.

Learned the white shirt item the hard way and I wasn't even the one doing the welding. As for the metal tendrils...learned that in metal shop class in HS. The teacher was giving the standard safety intro and it was the FIRST thing he said and he repeated it at LEAST 20 times during the class...

Things you've learned, life lessons in the shop.

OK Folks I figured this would be a good thread to share things you have learned over the years. Either you just jumped into a project without guidance and learned the really hard way or you "modified" plans and should have stuck with them. The obvious ones to start with that I have learned...

    Basement Finds

I figure once I get them totally cleaned I will hit them with a light coat of black hammer finish paint then mount them as shown above. They'll make cool wall art for the shop.

    Basement Finds

No actually. I just got the wild hair across my *** to clean them up for something to mess around with. I figured they were just old wrenches. Now that I have found them to be COOL old wrenches I will do before and afters with the other stuff I have found. :)

    Basement Finds

While cleaning out the basement and garage over the past few weeks I came across a bunch of old rusty crusty tools. Just for grins I gave these three a soak overnight in vinegar. They were so rusty I was actually concerned that they would disintegrate in the vinegar. After 24 hours I took a wire...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

OK finally getting around to getting the work area completed (yeah it's been awhile) Blew apart my littlestown vise, have it mostly cleaned and painted, now I just need to find replacement jaws for it. Does anyone know the measurements for the screws on the littlestown 4" bench vise? The jaws...

Basement Floor...A bit overwhelmed with options

Thanks!! When I get the foundation guy in to inspect and do the few repairs I will ask him about it. I have NEVER seen moisture come UP through the slab, The only water I have seen is through the block walls and ONLY when we have either torrential rain or long periods of it.

Basement Floor...A bit overwhelmed with options

Probably SOME hanging out but not much. I might make a little man cave down there for myself even though the ceiling height is a little low but that remains to be seen. I have not done a moisture test but I plan on putting a dehumidifier down there as well as opening up some existing duct work...

Basement Floor...A bit overwhelmed with options

@Maverick...Just did a little research on that, you're right. Looks good and is inexpensive. I like it! I also noticed that they offer some colorized densifiers. Looking into that now. Thanks!!

Basement Floor...A bit overwhelmed with options

Good suggestions all!.. The work down there would be a mix of everything. Woodwork, Repairs, painting, Hobbies etc etc but nothing really intense. I would rather avoid tiling as I just do not have the time for that and I also would like to keep the costs to a minimum. I have a couple of box...

    Ladies and Gentleman THIS is.....

I bet you could sell those for 50 bucks a piece without hesitation. With the modern world paying 20 times for "reclaimed" stuff that they would pay for new I am probably lowballing by a large margin.

Basement Floor...A bit overwhelmed with options

Hi Folks. Just finished clearing out the basement...30 yd dumpsters worth :scared:. Now it is still cluttered and I still have quite a bit of work ahead of me but it's time to start planning the floors. I will be getting a foundation person in to inspect and repair a few small problem areas...

    Pneumatic Nailer "sets"

Mostly it is nothing more than honeydo stuff. Oh I want crown molding here, Can you fix this? How about some trim here? Hence why I am leaning towards that one gun from HF now. It's cheap, has decent reviews and with my need of use should fit the bill nicely. I am not woodworker by any stretch...

    Pneumatic Nailer "sets"

Saw this right after I asked for opinions on the link I posted LOL. That's what I was thinking as well. Good reviews on HD site and a pretty damned good price, at least in this novices opinion. They want 204.00 on amazon.

    Pneumatic Nailer "sets"

I already have a hand me down portable compressor that works great, No need to replace it as of yet so a set without a compressor would be preferred. Probably should have mentioned that in the first post :) . Thanks for the info so far though. ANy opinions on the set I linked?
