Above 1200 Sq/FT Organizing the Family Shop

I went to carpentry school to get my red seal. From 2006-2010. We had one at the college. Made wooden siding windows and made the sash profiles and reverse with it. Lol we called it the widow maker. No guards.

Makita vs Milwaukee power tools and OPE

Kmstools.cpm usually has promotions where you buy the mower or chainsaw or trimmer and get dual charger with 2 -5ah batteries free. Not a bad deal.

Makita vs Milwaukee power tools and OPE

I’m not sure I don’t use heated clothing. When hunting or working up north in winter here I seem to stay warm on my own. A heated jacket wouldn’t have any bearing on the cordless brand I was choosing especially when the jackets can use different batteries. You won’t be disappointed buying...

Makita vs Milwaukee power tools and OPE

Gave it a quick google. Says you need to press the power button if it resets..... doesn’t sound like an issue to me. My saw doesn’t have this. Maybe because it’s older(only a year n bit old) or because it’s smaller model?

Makita vs Milwaukee power tools and OPE

Still don’t understand how a battery operated tool shuts off without use. Mine shuts off every time I release the trigger. I must be missing something. I have a 12” makita chainsaw and it works awesome. Cuts lots on 2 batteries.

They shut off after no use? What do you mean by that?

Makita vs Milwaukee power tools and OPE

Be surprised how loyal someone is when they have 8 batteries and 6 tools. That don’t wanna switch. Milwaukee does have good tool selection. But weight, feel and quality are big in my books. And while I don’t know of many failed Milwaukee, I do know my makita feel better.

Double ended male plug without shocking risk?

Had this on my last truck. Ends would still be live but at least hidden. Why not run cord up to front and just plug/unplug there as needed

Makita vs Milwaukee power tools and OPE

X2 I have the 36v chainsaw 12” I bought for wife and uses all my batteries. Makes sense. When she forgets to charge batteries I always have more that fit.

Makita vs Milwaukee power tools and OPE

Love my makita. Some are 14 years old or older. Lithium ion and awesome. They’ve done well. About the only issue I have is grease gun. Milwaukee makes a nice one. But al other tools I prefer makita. They make solid stuff and anytime I’ve used warranty it’s because I dropped a drill 20 plus...

Spray foam or fire stop wire holes?

As far as I’m aware fire stop is not required by code inside a residence. Only when an attached garage or multi family unit is involved.

Spray foam or fire stop wire holes?

Acoustical sealant. The black tar is what I use. Stays flexible but seals the penetration. You can foam the remainder of the hole. Into the basement doesn’t need anything.

What material to use for walls

28/29 gauge depending on where I buy I get for .92-.95 a square ft. 29.44 - 30.40 for 32 sq ft. Seconds or cheaper Chinese is .60 a sq ft. I just built a house and hustled to get 1/2” fir for $30 a sheet.

What material to use for walls

Bottom 8’ would be 3/4” and the top would be metal. Up here good metal is almost the same price as 1/2” plywood. Or seconds or cheaper metal is 2/3 of that price.

    Mini Dump Truck Build

Looks good. I have a question. Are both rear tires going to drive it? If so do you think it will have trouble turning when loaded? Thinking maybe it would want to push the truck straight.

    Paint Sprayer

There’s a massive savings. I back roll anything I spray in a house. You don’t need to keep loading the roller. I primed my 1870sq ft main floor in about 8 hours. 2 coats. But I wouldn’t set up the sprayer for different colours in different rooms. I sprayed my primer and ceiling paint. Then...

Electrical for shop, question for main panel

You may be correct. Unless maybe it’s an old one? I’m not sure. But around here they won’t stand for coming out for free and replacing the blown fuse on the tap too many times before they tell you that you need to upgrade.

Electrical for shop, question for main panel

Most people think 200 amp is sufficient for everything. Now a days a modern home that requires heating can almost use up the 200 amps. Not that you prob couldn’t get away with it and maybe be ok but who know. And if your over and blow the transformer, the poco might hold you responsible.

Trouble getting service to the shop

Yes burying a cable larger than needed for future kind of makes sense. But simple fact is if it’s too expensive to do it now.... it won’t be cheaper in the future. If he doesn’t have the required amperage available that’s what matters. 40x60 is a big shop. If it were me and the only way to get...

Trouble getting service to the shop

You guys can’t tell him he can pull 100 amps out of his 200 amp service without knowing the load calc on his house. For instance my load calc on my house was 192 amps...... but I was including a 8kw boiler in the basement. Also do you plan on heating the garage? If your load calc allows the...
