    The VISES of Garage Journal

On my '67 C3 I measured the depth to hit the screw at 1.5" so I ordered 1-1/4" pins

    The VISES of Garage Journal

That's a pretty slick method. My vise is missing the pins, so I just have to drive in new ones when I find some. I have 2 jaw screws that are original, all the other hardware was missing or broken off. The horseshoe clip also looks like someone torched the holes out bigger. I think I'll have a...

Smitty Thanks for the photos. It seems that the nut on mine was never drilled. I got it from a guy who pulled it out of the weeds and the first owner didn't seem to know much about it either. I'll drill the holes and get it back together. I just have to track down some pins or drill rod of the...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I went back and looked at pictures from tearing down my 3” and it has a single pin that engages a slot on the underside of the nut. I cleaned up the nut from the C3 to see if a previous owner had sheared the pins when trying to remove the nut and found no indication of the pins that hold the...

Wilton offered the hydraulic ram as a factory option. There is a post with the Wilton ad somewhere here in GJ.

I’m getting a much worse for wear C3 back to functional and have a question about reassembly. The nut slides into the back cap and has 2 ears that lock into the back cap to prevent rotation, but there is nothing to keep the nut from pushing out the back when opening the dynamic. The (missing)...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT The Delta Garage - 24x40 in North Carolina

I'm in the process of designing a house and shop on some land we recently purchased and a 24x40 is exactly what I have drawn out. I can go a little bigger to 26', but the 40' depth is limited by property lines. realistically it will store 2 vehicles and the rear portion will be work space. I...

I have my popcorn in hand. Ready to watch this thread go down a rabbit hole of video editing. I’m learning that I too have to continue evolving with my work. My company is old school and resistant, but I have to learn how to push my modeling software to be more efficient and incorporate more...

Frozen Wilton journey, come laugh with (at) me

I had it set up on some solid steel blocks for the first few inches to get it moving, but the setup got rather sketchy when stacking random scrap to raise the vise, so I built the contraption in the pic. Everything was loaded in compression so no screws were carrying the load and the spans were...

Frozen Wilton journey, come laugh with (at) me

I just got my C3 apart yesterday. Previous owners had tried prybars between the jaws and definitely a sledge hammer from the back. My press was too small for the 6” wide jaws to sit between the rails so I had to build a (very crude) frame that would allow the dynamic jaw to fully be pushed out...

My dad is from Paoli and my grandfather worked at the St David’s golf club by Valley Forge Military Academy for ages and ages. Still have some family up there but haven’t been in a long time.

I've always wanted to make a box joint jig. I just might have to get that done soon as our kitchen remodel nears.

    Another round fab table

I want to come to AK just to see the scrapyard all your giant steel comes from. I don't know of any place within 100 miles that would sell stuff like that to someone off the street.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I just picked up this 6” C3 shown with my restored 4” on top for scale. It’s currently frozen, but the price was worth taking a chance and the previous owner had not tried very much to get it working. I believe it lived outdoors for many years so it will take some work to bring back. Missing the...

Following as a welcome distraction to the other media outlets. While 8 episodes of Grand Design gets me through work, I need some projects that are within my grasp to wind down with.

Have you ever tried the Tru Oil/ArmorAll combo? I have not, but my understanding is the ArmorAll contains a chemical that polymerizes with the Tru Oil. Maybe it’s just a backyard version of Waterlox.

And ^ this is why we come here. The knowledge drop. The terms between photographer and architect are different, but the goals are the same. I was working on a lighting plan this morning for a church lobby. I have glass overhead doors on the north side that give excellent overall illumination but...
