I am going with a 30amp service because it is not a garage, it's a large shed, that is my workshop. I want separate light circuit and outlets. And a sub panel allows me to do that. Plus it allows me to also have 240v available.

just a little observation here, the 974a pictured is NON-swivel. the 975B pictured on the otherhand is a swivel base. maybe the "a" is a non-swivel designation, and the "b" is a designation for swivel.

I am way ahead of you on the oversize conduit. I have 1 1/4 conduit. So if in the future I find it to be a problem I can easily pull bigger wires.
