Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

Nice box. I think many guys use PB Blaster Dry Lube.

    Columbian Vise Restoration

I used Krylon gray primer and Krylon Gloss Banner Red. Depending on the light, it looks very red and at other times, it has an orange/red tint.

    Columbian Vise Restoration

I just did a restoration of an old Columbian M503 vise. My family has had it since WWII. All of the original paint was gone. I did some research and found that many of them were red. It was taken completely apart, sandblasted, and primed before putting it back together. The jaws were...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Thank you to everyone who replied on my toolbox. I read everyone’s comment and did some over the weekend. I’m wondering if the box is a Yorktown. I found a 3 drawer Yorktown just like it except for the insignia. It appears to be a sticker rather than a metal badge. The 3 drawer is at the link...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I came across this upper box in my Father’s garage this week. I am hoping that someone can help me identify the brand. I still need to clean it up, but at this point I can’t easily find any manufacture markings. I thought that it might be an old Snapon KRA 53, but the dimensions aren’t correct...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I have my Father's Craftsman Crowntop that he bought new in 1958. He painted it in the 60's because all the guys had red boxes at Fort Wolters in north Texas. Those are nice boxes. I'd love to find another one like it to have a separate box for SAE and Metric.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I have that same toolbox. It is a 6516. I belonged to my father. He bought it brand new in 1957-1958 while he was a helicopter mechanic supervisor at Southern Airways.

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

I found a 3D printable file of a drawer clip that will work on our Gray/Red toolboxes. It is the M3163 rather than the double loop clips normally used. They probably won’t take a beating, but with care they seem to be ok. I used them on a 6 drawer upper not too long ago. ABS plastic is...

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

Thank you. I'm in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. They show up every couple of months around here. Some are cheap and some are priced way too high. The only actual Chevron badge that I have is plastic. It's off of a 1975 roller.

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

I finally finished assembling the 10D Top and 9D Roller. Now my 12D Top and 9D Roller has an almost twin. All the slides were cleaned-greased and the drawers were lined. They are ready to be filled. I really like the Diamond Plate mat that I used between the upper and lower. I got it at...

That's nice. Those are neat boxes. I just redid one just like it.

    Craftsman Toolbox Thread

I always thought the cantilever boxes were cool. This one lived a very rough life before it was rescued from someone tossing it out. Since then, it’s been sitting in my shed. Lots of rust damage inside and out. The bottom had holes in it and all of the chrome was rusted and pathetic. I...

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

I know this isn’t a Craftsman rollaway, but it’s from the same era . I always thought these were cool boxes too. This one lived a very rough life before it was rescued from someone tossing it out. Since then, it’s been sitting in my shed. Lots of rust damage inside and out. The bottom had...

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

I got the upper and lower painted this afternoon. It takes so long to set up to paint! (Homemade paint booth) I still need to clean the slides. The upper drawers are painted and are ready to tap the aluminum pulls on. I hope to get the lower drawers stripped and painted soon. All in good time.
