Any pro mechanics go from a big box to a couple or a few carts?

On big jobs I would leave my tools on my cart for the duration, including over night. When I finished with the job all tools would go back into my stationary big box.

    Vapor barrier or no?

Sounds like he may just not wanna bother. A vapor barrier keeps moisture from the ground from coming up thru the concrete. Moisture coming up thru the concrete is the very thing that will make any floor coating fail. Just tell him you respect his opinion but you would really like the barrier.

    Broken Tap Removal

The few taps I've broken have snapped at or below the surface and have turned into horror shows. Now when I have to tap I stop, get into the right frame of mind and work like a brain surgeon. Plenty of lube, small incremental turns and haven't broken one in quite some time.

Atlas Platinum vs regular atlas lift

I just retired as a 40 year Diesel mechanic. Worked mostly at Chevy. When your dealing with 7k plus pound diesel trucks, dual rear wheel etc, anything but a drive on is scary. Putting those types of trucks up on a two post is a pita. They're too heavy and too long. You start hammering on...

    MaxJax Tilt

I owned one for several years. It was certainly better than floor jacks and stands. I sat on a mechanics stool and rolled around under the vehicle . If your restricted by ceiling height it's great.

    tell me about flap discs

Flappers are awesome. Great for prepping metal for welds. Most brands last long and with 40 grit you take metal down as fast as a grind disk

    Milwaukee Hole Dozers

I've always been a twist bit guy, but feel like I get the **** kicked out of me and my drill press when drilling holes over 1/2 inch in thicker steel. Annular cutters costing 60 bucks a piece are out of the question. So now I'm using these Milwaukee carbide Hole Dozers and am very pleased...

    Eastwood? Quality?

I owned the Mig 175 and have to say it was a pretty good machine. Definitely better than HF stuff. It came with a spool gun to weld aluminum which I never used. I currently run a Lincoln which is twice the price but never had a problem with the Eastwood

OSB Painting - Spray or Roll?

Working from home as a mechanic (auto repair)?

LMAO, guy comes on asking for advice on running a repair business outta his garage then shits and leaves pissed off. LOL, Well one other thing I see home shop guys doing is requesting customers pay cash for obvious reasons, but in today's world most people want to pay plastic, especially on...

Working from home as a mechanic (auto repair)?

Another huge factor suprisingly not mentioned here is if you own a home and have a family. Health insurance. Something you have to have and paying for it as an individual can be crippling. That's what keeps most people from entrepreneurship and stuck working for someone else forever.

Working from home as a mechanic (auto repair)?

A friend of mine did this for years and built a very good business with lots of return customers. A local shop on a main Rd four miles away turned him in to the town and he was put out of business overnight. He went back to work at a local school bus garage. Funny thing is was the garage owner...

    Over glasses safety goggles

I just wear those cheap buy by the dozen regular safety glasses over my prescription glasses. There's enough circulation to prevent fogging and when they scratch I toss em. They're cheap.
