Which twelve point sockets are required on modern vehicles?

As cheap as a set of 12pt 3/8 shallow chrome sockets is, I'm surprised this is even a conversation. I'm even more surprised, given this is garage journal, that everyone here doesnt already have full sets of sockets in BOTH 6 and 12pt. Just go buy a set of generic Taiwan 8-19 for $25 and call...

What do you think of bent-handle flex head ratchet?

I've found the opposite to be true in many scenarios. With a deep socket or extension I can use the flex the get handle down lower, Even more so than a straight handle, and the bent handle gives a little more clearance. Almost as if your hand can now apply leverage on a more even plane to...

What do you think of bent-handle flex head ratchet?

I HATE a straight handled flex ratchet. My go to for the last 10+ years is the same bent handle flex head in this video. No, it doesn't work on all scenarios but I find the bent handle to be the most comfortable, offer the most clearance vs the straight handle of the same length, and you...

I always, invariably, am missing 1 or 2 tools to complete a job

I feel your pain. We have a family mountain cabin about 3.5hrs away. Just remote enough to be secluded, but just close enough to towns to still have some tweaker theft activity. I WONT leave any tools. Many one day projects turn into "we'll finish that NEXT weekend" type projects. And yes...

    Knipex at Mobile Distributor Supply

I ordered from here a few days ago--a plethora of knipex (some o see are now out of stock). Considering the discount, the free shipping, and no sales tax... these were 1/3rd the cost of the best eBay prices. I've received a shippong confirmation so, we shall see.

Quinn 428 piece mechanic's tool set spied at HF today

This. I was born on the mid 80's and didn't start working on cars til about 2000, but use my tools for more than just automotive. My SAE sets show their wear, and half my metrics are still untouched.

    Homemade socket organizers

FYI Ares, Olsa, Mod-Box, ABN, and probably a couple more all made the same style of rail, and from what I've seen they all interchange parts. The only real difference is the name ether on the rail, and some brands short change you a few socket clips. The short and medium rails are an excellent...

    Homemade socket organizers

How few? You can buy socket rails that only hold a few sockets, all the way up to an entire set. You can mix and match different drive sizes on the same rail as well. The right style can be hung on a wall or stood in a drawer for storage. These Ares rails come in a variety of lengths and...

    Tekton vs Gearwrench socket set?

I just ordered the Tekton 6pt 3/8 SAE and Metric shallow/deep socket set when it was on sale last month. It included a ratchet, breaker bar, and some extensions for $149ish shipped, plus 10% back in points. All and all, I'm very pleased with it. I have no use for the molded plastic case (they...

Lag bolts vs GRK RSS screws

GRK I've switched over to them on many projects. My overheads garage shelves and my steel gladiator garage cabinets are all hung with GRK. So handy, and tougher than tough.
