Need a 1/4 hex drive driver.....

Alas, I missed out on the $38 Bosch combo deal that was at Lowes a few weeks back. I have had a Makita 9.6V driver drill for the last 20 years and it finally went MIA so it's time to replace it. My work involves unscrewing things in tight places, taking apart some framing or paneling, the...

Regular Hammer Drill and SDS bits?

May look like a fool for asking but here goes. I need to clean some sediment out of a 1" pipe on a steam generator, it's fairly soft stuff, chips out pretty easy while it's still wet, like bad cement. I was thinking of getting the 16" masonry bit set from HF, I figure it's made for concrete so...

    1/2" drive, 6pt. vs. 12 pt.

I'm sure it's been discussed here before but a search turned up nothing. If you were only going to have one set of 1/2" drive deep sockets for general automotive work would you get 6pt. or 12pt? What about 1/2" standard sockets? thanks, Rob

    Hitachi Nailers, opinions?

Looking at this finish nailer on sale at Amazon, are the Hitachi's well thought of? I have a Hitachi recipro saw for about 25 years now and it's held up well but that's the limit of my experience withe the brand. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003QTWNTS/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    HF 26" 8 + 8 tall chest, good deal?

It's on sale for $349 and since it's not a coupon I can use a 20% off coupon for $279. Seems like a good deal for storage. Is this the same quality as the 13 drawer chest? I like that one. thanks, Rob

    HF 13 drawer chest question

The $349 deal is too good to pass up but how are they packaged? The web page states a shipping weight of 641lbs but is it all in one box assembled or several boxes and I need to put it together? I was planning on picking it up with the SUV but will I need a trailer? thanks, Rob

I'm told this 5" C-Man was purchased new in 1975, don't think we were dealing with the Chinese back then...any ideas?

    Mounting a large vise.

I may ahve bit off a bit much with the new Yost 6" for the garage. Bench top is 2" hardwood and this vise is going to take up quite a bit of space. What's the procedure for mounting a vise on it's own stand? I have seen them fabricated from square and round pipe stock with a flange on top to...

WTB Old Wright 1314 & 1318 open end wrenches

I need two older Wright open end wrenches to complete a set I got from my dad 35 years ago. The two that have gone missing are a number 1314 (3/8" x 7/16") and a 1318 (1/2" x 9/16") These are an older style than the new full polish ones Wright still sells, The handles are double concave in...

Feeler Gauge sets, can they be saved?

The SO chest I just cleaned up came with a lot of tools, many are in need of a clean up. Among all this stuff are 4-5 sets of different types of feeler gauges and they all have some degree of corrosion. They be cleaned up with some Kroil and steel wool but it occurred to me they mayl be a bit...

What are these MAC sockets for? Strange designations.

While sorting through the tools that came with a used cabinet I found a set of 1/2" drive, 12pt, short MAC sockets. They run from a size designation of VM 32-2 for the largest, about 1-1/4" down to a VM 10-2, about 7/16. What do the designations stand for? Also, I found some wrenches with...

Adding a side cabinet to SO 537C?

Adding a side cabinet to SO 557B? I filled up my SO 557B yesterday and when I was done I still had tools left over. It's an old one, from 1980, can I still get a side cart for it? How do they mount? Do I need to take out the drawers, drill holes and bolt them together? thanks, Rob

When did Craftsman rolling chests get cheap?

I see plenty of reviews here with opinions that the new Craftsman chests are poorly built, very flimsy. When did the change occur and was it a result of changing their source? Are the older cabinets marked "Made in USA" or date stamped? From time to time I see used Craftsmans on Craigslist and...

    Snap On chest rehab questions.

Got a nice deal on a KR537C top and KR557B bottom. I have all the drawers and slides out and am just going to clean up the rust and repaint where necessary, lube the slides and that's it. On the small door that covers the small drawers on the 537C there is a black coated metal plate glued to...

Sears Craftsman 6" Metal Turning Lathe by Atlas?

Local widow wants to sell her husbands small Sears metal working lathe. It's stamped Model 101 21400. Googling this I see they were 6" lathes made by Atlas. It has a belt drive and though it's small, I figure it would be handy for small jobs. What to look for in the way of condition (don't know...

    Question about my Yost 44

Question about my Yost 44, Swivel Back? My dad was the VP of a company that fabricated equipment for pre-stressing concrete, I worked there for many summers in the 1970's. The parent company finally decided to move the shop in 1996 and I was able to take home this Yost 44 (4" jaws and 4"...
