How do I connect the neutral?

There are both 12-2 and 10-2 red Romex, 12-2 for the electrical heating circuits and 10-2 for the water heater. Dan

How do I connect the neutral?

They're Cutler Hammer BR quadplex breakers. They take half the space of the regular breakers. Although there was ample space for regular breakers, when the electrician did the panel change they reused the breakers from the old panel which was all done with quads. That's why the panel is rated...

How do I connect the neutral?

There is no disconnect before the panel, only the meter. This is why both neutral bus bars are bonded to ground. The neutrals and grounds aren't mixed together, the neutrals are on the neutral bars and the grounds are on the ground bars. Only the ground rod wire is attached to the top lug of...

How do I connect the neutral?

I'm ready to connect the garage subpanel to the house main panel. The house panel is a 200A Cutler Hammer BR series 40-80 circuits that was installed last year to replace a 100A unit. The garage panel is the old 100A panel of the house (Cutler Hammer BR series 12-24 circuits). Attached garage...

    Who's got lathes?

Here is mine. The lathe is a Summit 11 x 32. Not sure of the year or where it was made. It's in great condition and does everything I need it to do. The mill is a 50s era Bridgeport 9 x 36 round ram. It has a variable speed motor and VFD so I don't have to mess with the belt anytime I want...

I guess it's time to show what I've built

Yes it is at an angle. Most of the bungalows here built in the 50s and 60s have it done like this. Must have been a trend back then. I'll probably make it straight when we redo the roof and exterior of the house. The garage overhangs are straight. Dan

I guess it's time to show what I've built

You've seen right, that's where the Pex tubing ends are. I'm planning on installing the radiant hardware under the stairs. I'm not decided on a heat source yet. If I go with an instant water heater I may be able to cram it all there and not lose an inch of floor space. If I go with a tank water...

I guess it's time to show what I've built

Hi Rich, It was important for me (and even more for the wife!!) that the new shop looked well integrated to the house. Did you noticed that your garage looks a lot like mine, only detached?

I guess it's time to show what I've built

Hi guys, After lurking here for a while I think it's time for me to share a few pics of my build. But first a little background. We bought our first house 2 years ago. I wanted to be out in the country and have a large lot. My girlfriend wanted to be in or real close to the city. We both...

    OSB vs Drywall

I too got to think about the different options. Sheetmetal? Too expensive and may reverberate the sound too much (garage is attached so it's important). Fiber cement boards? way too expensive. In the end it was a debate between OSB and drywall. I'm going with drywall. About the same price as...

    120/240VAC for mill and lathe

I was thinking about it, if my machines are 1 1/2hp or less I should be ok with 20 amps circuits. 20amps in the 120V receptacle would be better.

    120/240VAC for mill and lathe

Thanks guys for the answers. The machines aren't near me so I can't check for sure but I'd say 1 or 1 1/2hp. The only thing I see is that I'd have 30amps at the 120V outlets. Just need to be careful and limit the use of these outlets to the work lights and digital readout. Dan

    120/240VAC for mill and lathe

I'm about to start the wiring of my garage. I have a metal lathe and Bridgeport mill. Both are setup to run on 240VAC single phase. At my father's garage they were plugged with 6-50 plugs (welder plug) on 30A circuits. I have lights and digital readout(well, I wish I had the DRO... but I have...

    Hello from Québec!!

Just a few lines to introduce me. I'm from Québec City, Québec, Canada. I've been lurking here for a while now and have taken many great ideas for my garage. Building a garage was already in the plans but as my father passed away last december and I inherited all his tools this got the project...
