Real estate improvement and out pricing the neighborhood with a new metal building

Pools are very regional and by a price point. Here in my neighborhood in FL it seems a majority of the houses have a pool and those that do not, often sit on the market longer. The houses with a pool get a premium over non pool houses, likely not the cost to build a new one with todays prices...

    Rebuilding Li-Ion power tool batteries

I have bought from https://www.18650batterystore.com/ they are legit, but not cheap from my research. I only needed a half dozen so cost was not a real factor, but did not want knock off or used cells.

    Best wall track system?

Subscribing, I bought a rubbermaid fast-track, but it is a single track, not a whole wall system. It works well for the weed eater and edger. Only had it for 2 weeks, but the hooks have a retainer that keeps them in place when you pick it up.

Real estate improvement and out pricing the neighborhood with a new metal building

around here, there was a very nice 4K sqft house for sale, with a 5k sqft "shop" HVAC, block construction, fully finished inside with old gas station themed. The houses down the street sold for 900-1mil, that house sold for 1.1 million. Pennies on the dollar was added to the value when sold. I...

Garage Automation: What have you done?

not very technical, but back in the 80's my dad put a limit switch on the garage door track, so when the garage door is open the ceiling fan turns on, this always gets airflow in the garage, both nice for hot cars pulling in or keeping it a little less hot.

    cutting plugs

back in the 80's my dad didn't have a drillpress, but needed plugs for the chris craft he was restoring, he installed a chuck on the side of his radial arm saw and used the vertical adjustment crank to cut the plugs, worked well, but it was mahogany not redwood.

Junction box flush with drop ceiling. Ideas?

junction boxes need to be accessible, as long as the box is sealed, nothing in your description sounds like it is improper. Can you share a picture, or do you know what it goes to? (is that what you are trying to not bring attention to? In my garage there is a junction box in the ceiling...

    Heavy Duty Shelving units

Edsal makes a lot of them as well, I want to get some for my garage, but want to find a place to order parts and assemble, as I want a different height to width than what is sold locally. Northern tool has much better prices on them than home depot, especially if you are ok with 3 shelves vs 4

What would you do? Toolbox/top dilemma

if you don't need peg board behind it, I have mounted drawer organizer bins behind a bench like that, not so much to fill a gap, but just a useful place for small part storage, they tend to be 6" deep or so

    HVAC vacuum pump losing oil

Is there not a valve on the vacuum pump? My Robinair 15600 has a valve on the side to shut off the vacuum pump from the gauge set.

Contractor broke water line... who's liable?

Not knowing the layout of the property, but can the contractor dig the trench with that equipment? The pipe is not the expensive part of replacing a water line, the labor/trenching is. The machinery is already on site? At least turn the lemons into lemonade.

Which orientation is your garage and why?

I would do 32 wide and 24 deep, but that would be a 2 car and a wide 1 car garage doors on the long side. no snow to worry about here in FL. If I could afford to go deeper, it would be at least 26 if not 28 deep for parking long pickup trucks with room to walk around. Somebody who does not own...

Wiring a off grid generator into a small cabin

That is one good way to do it, what kind of loads does the cabin have?

    Broken main bus

Most likely the stab rating of that panel is 100/125 amps, so he wanted to make sure that was not exceeded on the opposite of the main. Personally I would replace the panel with one with a main and would want to to run the 100 amp to the garage off of the main panel, not the sub.

    Generator inlet sizing help

resistive heat, meaning Electric heat strips in your HVAC, sometimes called Emergency heat. Typical generator loads are a high inrush and then a much lower continuous operating, other than if using resistive heaters, that are a continuous high load.

    Generator inlet sizing help

#6 wire is significantly higher cost than #10. What loads do you plan to run on your generator? Resistive heat would push me to the 50 amp, but in all reality, unless you are at the threshold of the generator, 30 should be fine for most.

Keeping track of equipment maintenance, a better way?

I use a free app called our groceries, wife set it up for groceries list, but since it is a synchronized list app, I have a shopping list for each car and also use it for a "to do" list around the house. Kinds crude, but a phone is always around, or the wife has it too, always in sync and free...

    120v 20 amp outlets

Honest question, Why would a user need to care? A 20 amp device has a 20 amp plug and a 15 amp device can plug into both a 15 and 20 amp receptacles. The 20 amp circuit with 15 amp receptacles just will allow more power drawing devices before the breaker trips.

absolutely beautiful vault door! While I would never have any reason to own something like that, it would be a very cool conversation piece.

What to put on walls for outbuilding? Don’t want drywall

I don't see it often on here , but FRP would looks good, but you need to put some kind of board behind it. I've done it over drywall in a commercial space, in a light gray and it made a very durable easy to clean surface.
