    Lifting my shop??

Sounds like deja vu, all over again. I bought my place, there was a pole building 24x32, 8 ft high. It was structurely sound, all 4"×6" poles. It had a dirt floor and was used for animals. Outside was weathered cdx. Fiberglass roof panels. I decided to lift it to 12 feet high. I first poured 7...

    Raising a roof

I raised my pole building from 8 ft to 12 ft. I added 4 ft stud walls on top of the existing header. You can level it out with taller stud wall insert on the low side.

    The Ultimate Shop Safety Thread

Good post. About fire extinguishers, have multiple and school yourself on proper using, I also keep a 3 gallon backpack sprayer filled with water. I always disconnect the battery in stored vehicles. I wear a Wilson Old School Catchers Skull Cap when working under my 2 post lift, it's saved my...

    outfitting home garage for welding

Lots of good answers in this thread. I keep 2 fire extinguishers plus a bucket of water and a pressurized backpack sprayer with water ready to go. School yourself on proper fire extinguisher use. One can never be to careful when it comes to fire.

How big do I really need?

My main, working bay is 24x32, 12 ft high. I like this size, just big enough to work and small enough to heat. I have a 2 post lift and could fit 3 cars, 2 plus 1 on the lift if I had to. 24' would be my minimum width, one could always add on deeper later on. I have 16x32 ft unheated wing/bay...

Buy a fire extinguisher for your garage!

I have 3 extinguishers plus I keep a backpack sprayer filled with water. If I weld/burn/grind anything, I have them nearby ready, just in case. I have a farm hydrant with a hose outside my building for a backup. I've been meaning to get a couple more extinguishers. One needs to know proper...

Does anyone have this 6 car garage?

I'd have to modify plans adding at least a foot of height to 12' high for a lift on each end. Jmo.

DDawg16's Garage Build in One Post

Wow, sorry for your troubles, but probably better now than later. Great advice about documenting her taking the child and what ddawg16 said plus others. I've been through a divorce. Don't drag it out like I did. Get the best lawyer there is. Don't cry in your beer, in other words don't start...

    Pole Building 24 or 30' Deep (w/Lift)

I agree, 32 feet at least. My building is 32'×56', middle bay with 2 post lift is 24 wide 32 deep. End bays are 16 by 32. I heat only the middle bay, works for me but 4 foot wider would be nice. I keep everything on rollers and if it's not needed it's stored in the "unheated" bays. It's nice to...

Things you've learned, life lessons in the shop.

Always wear my Wilson Old School Catchers Skull Cap when working under the 2 post lift. I never go under a vehicle without it on.

Which Car Lift for Tall Guys?

I'm 6'2", I wear a Wilson Old School catcher helmet. I got it at Dicks sporting goods, best money spent. It's low profile and I always wear it under my 2 post lift. I always move slowly too because ones always looking down. Jmo

    Best Interior Paint

I like SW upper grade of paint. Talk to the guys there. I'd rather pay the cost upfront than not have a good job. I always do my own work so I just have the cost of materials.

    TV in the work shop?

It's only a distraction if it's on. Just like a radio, microwave, refrigerator, they have there place. No, I don't have one, yet.

Do you use a service cart?

I use service carts when working on cars. I try to have everything I will need on the cart. It's nice not having to bend/trip over tools. I have some retro fiber glass high bar chairs that I can sit while under a vehicle while on my 2 post lift with the cart right there. Ahhh, life's good.

Too much stuff or Too little storage?

I don't like a cluttered house but being an old guy that likes old cars I have lots of cars and parts plus tools and yada yada. My goal is to thin the herd and get rid of some parts and stuff now I'm retired, hopefully.

    Underhoist safety stand

I bought 3 HF ones around 3 years ago using a coupon from a Hemmings car magazine in the $50's range. I have a 2 post lift and I balance the vehicles always checking them close to the floor before lifting. I use them for extra protection.

    Industrial Metal Desks

I had one made by General Fireproofing, made locally in Youngstown, OH. Great desk, very heavy. I gave it away the same time I kind of "gave" away a house.

    32x24 or 36x22?

I have a main bay of 24' wide and 32' deep. I don't think you'll be happy with the 22'. Good luck. Ken
