Craftsman / Parks 18" Bandsaw questions...

Don’t you love it when you find something you forgot you had? I was debating taking the light off my Craftsman 100 Drill Press, but decided not to. Saw a few on eBay go for more than I thought they would. Debated grabbing a cheap gooseneck lamp... then found a spare drill press light at my...

Does Evaporust leave a grey color tarnishing like vinegar?

no, it's black and can be removed before it dries just by wiping it off.

And since uploads are working tonight... I wanted to add wheel brushes to this, but didn’t want to pay Carter’s $15 each when all it looks like is a 1” chunk of door sweep. So I bought a $10 door sweep and started cutting chunks out of it. I’ve added those two so far, and replaced the rubber...

So I have a theory on the kerf issue. So I have a 1” 3-4 TPI blade on there centered on the wheels. Would over tightening the blade throw off the kerf? This thing has flat wheels, no crown built into them. And it could be that I’m half asleep, but the left side of the blade doesn’t seem stick...

Once I’m done with all this black walnut I will. Overnight some of it leaked out, so filled it back up and just let it run for 15 minutes and filled again. With the belt off, they’re moving a lot nicer. It doesn’t immediately stop when you stop turning it anymore lol. It is quieter but still...

Alright, so tackled the gear box tonight. Mine is different from the one in the diagram that I found. That must be a newer machine. Was definitely full of grease, so I cleaned out as much of it as I could and packed it with a pound of Lucas heavy duty green. It definitely quieted it down, but...

It was, thank you. After watching that one guy from carter’s video, I’m sold that it can be set up without drift ;) once the little ones asleep, I’m going to go take a crack and changing the grease in the gearbox. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yep, if the fence is to the left of the blade, the piece comes off of the fence after a few inches. If I put it to the right of the blade it feels like it’s binding up. If I draw a line and don’t use a fence, I can follow the line. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Craftsman / Parks 18" Bandsaw questions...

I finally found something on lumberjocks, the manual for a later model with a different gear box. Looks like on the later models, they swapped positions of were the wood and metal pulleys are. Those were packed with a solid pound of grease, so wonder if this ones supposed to be too. Doesn’t...

I was thinking of putting it pennzoil synchromesh mtf, it only has a gl3 spec, since newer gl5 isn’t that friendly to the possible bronze bushing that could be in there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Another question, anyone have a manual for this thing? I've found the sales brochure and parts diagram, but not an actual users manual. Thanks!

Craftsman / Parks 18" Bandsaw questions...

So recently I picked up a new-to-me 50's Craftsman / Parks 18" Bandsaw. It works alright, I can follow a straight line drawn on the wood, but it won't follow the fence. Think I'm going to use this thread as a way to throw all my questions about this thing out there and see if anyone has an...

Which Era/Manufacturer of Craftsman is the best?

Lugz, You missed one word I typed in there, wrenches ;) When I think CI / Long-C Wrenches, I think more of the Chromium-Vanadium monsters from the 30's as opposed to the more-modern War Era plain steel Long-C. I agree that there is little difference in the sockets, other than finish, but...

Which Era/Manufacturer of Craftsman is the best?

No, I just think some people are over thinking the question. Lets look at some key metrics of a tool here. Finish, Longevity, Weight.... I don't think many people would disagree that the =V= era wins in those categories over any other era by Craftsman. Yes and no, I've seen a lot in the era...

Restoring a mid 50s model CraftsMen Drill Press

late '56 they started with the Bronze, I believe '58/'59 they started with the crown logo. So this press in particular should be late-56 to '58ish.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

There's a few ways to date the Kennedy boxes. I have a machinist chest from the teens. Leather Handle, forget when they switched to plastic Any name on the lock? Forget what brand name off the top of my head mine is, but wasn't stamped Kennedy. And I think differences in the logo going...
