CATS in the shop: Good idea or not?

Should I get a couple cats to live in my shop? Background: - I have a 4yr old girl who BEGS to get a pet cat. - 32x48 shop in my back yard, insulated, heated, cooled. - My wife is allergic to cats, no cats in house. - We live in town, cats can't roam freely outside really. - I found a mouse in...

    Fluorescent light bulbs...

I thought I should post a followup since someone PM'd me asking about those lights becasue this came up in a search: Well, I hated those 4' bulbs, couldn't get enough light, and the blue tint I did not like. So I looked at a friend's shop whose lights I liked, then went to Menards and...

    Lift to 2nd Floor

I've pondered the same question. There are threads on this site about using barn rail and an electric hoist, good for smaller loads, like 500-1000 lbs. If you want to lift car, you will need something custom... I don't think most 4-post lifts can go 8-9 ft up. My 2-post lift only has a travel...

How'd I do on this Air Compressor from Craigslist?

It's a 1995, 7.5 HP two-stage 80-gallon Air America/DevilBiss for $600, with water separator or something. It was used in a small contractor/woodworking shop, so I don't think it was used too much. I was thinking of buying a new 1-stage 5hp for $700+, so I thought this sounded like the better...

Check this out, pretty cool: Thermal Imaging

I didn't think direction of the loops mattered? I just stuck one end of each pex in each manifold? Do I need to rethink that? (Actually I doubt I have enough length to switch them).

Check this out, pretty cool: Thermal Imaging

When I put the pex in for my in-floor heat, I left areas with no pex for the columns for my two post that I planned on. But when they cut the expansion joints for the concrete they went right where the posts will be, so I had to move things around to be sure all bolts were 6" from a joint, and...

    Pex tubing installation

For control joints, I've read that you can put those drywall thin steel corner pieces on top of the pex where you want a joint (so one edge is horizontal, one is vertical), pour the concrete, and the concrete will naturally crack there if it is going to crack, then you don't need to cut control...

My Bend Pak XPR-10ACX install (Feb. 2011)

According to Greg Smith Equipment's web site, 4" of 3000 psi concrete is all you need for a 2 post lift.

Prep work for a concrete slab

Some things that may or may not be relevent to you. I'm no expert, so take with grain of salt. - If you ever think you'll want a loft or 2nd floor, think where you might want some columns or support posts or walls and dig some postholes down to solid ground/frost line for footings and fill with...

    Old kitchen cabinents above workbench?

33x48 shop, I have about 24 foot worth of 30" tall upper cabinets from my kitchen remodel last year. They are 12 or 18" deep, I forget. My initial plan was to put them above 24' of workbenches... but it seems it would be hard to get into them without a stool, reaching up and over the bench...

    Fluorescent light bulbs...

I bought eighht 4' 2-bulb light fixtures for my 32x48 shop. They take these bulbs: 32W T8 or 25W,34W,40W T12 (F32T8 req for low temp) Here is a link to them I found online, mine were from Menards...

So I may need to finish my radiant heat DIY and have questions.

Set it up so as water goes in, air can come out. There are two scenarios, if you are adding plain water or antifreeze mixture. I google'd and found this: http://www.radiantcompany.com/details/fill.shtml And here is the install instructions for one of the radiant panels Menard's sales that...

So I may need to finish my radiant heat DIY and have questions.

Can your heater tolerate cold water coming into it? If so, your setup will be simple, you won't need a mixing circuit, unless you want to limit the temp going to the floor (but not needed for a concrete garage floor). For the control part: You won't need the Taco controller. Since the heater...

    R19 fiberglass insulation pole barn?

What is "thin liner"? Steel? On my shed, my trusses are space 8' apart and the building company said that for the ceiling, I could span that with steel liner panels, and blow up to 18" of cellulose (I think) onto it without needing 2x4's every 24". Seems like I'll be asking a lot of the steel...

    R19 fiberglass insulation pole barn?

That's how I did my shed, but it's not fully heated yet. The idea here, looking from the top down is: /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ outside tin ============== outside horizontal purlin 1.5" (A) [] .............. [] 6x6 posts (5.5") with bats (..) between them ------------------...

We finally got it last night around 10pm. By noon today it finally shut off after raising the floor from cold (freezing) to 51 degrees with an air temp of 40!
