install window where cross brace is?

See the picture. I was wondering if I would be sacrificing the structural integrity of the pole building if I install a window on that wall and thereby cut the diagonal cross brace member? I think this cross brace is meant to keep the building from twisting. I would obviously need to frame the...

    affordable, stain resistant floor coating

I have a 40x88 pole building. Concrete was poured 9-15 and I need to coat it with something before I start bringing stuff in. Things I want/need: 1. stain resistant 2. non-slip 3. easy cleanup (don't want grit to make it hard to clean) 4. no flakes for non-slip (drop a nut on the floor and it's...

    93" fiberglass insulation

For those of you with a pole building with posts 8' OC... I know there are places that sell 93" wide fiberglass rolls which will fit perfectly between posts at 8' OC. Where can you buy this stuff? How much did you pay?

Wires in conduit or behind metal wall panels?

So I have a 40x88 pole building that I'm finishing. I am looking for guidance on how to run my electric wires to outlets/lights/switches. I don't have insulation up yet or the inside walls which will be metal sheeting like the outside. I am considering running the wire inside the walls in...

    Windows in pole barn

I'm looking to install some new windows in my pole barn that I snatched at an auction last year. Wondering if you guys have any good pics of how you framed yours in. My posts are 8'OC with 2x6" wall girts. The inside will be finished off with steel, same as the exterior. Thanks

    Keep pex out of concete?

So my neighbor stopped over tonight and we got talking about my radiant heat in my shop that I'm building. I said I planned to put down 2" XPS and staple the pex to the foam and then rebar on chairs (spaced 24") and 5" of concrete over all of that. So the pex will be in the concrete somewhat. He...

    1 pump per zone?

So Blue Ridge said I'd have to have a separate pump for each zone. I've also heard that you can use 1 pump and a different valve setup or something to limit flow to zones you want a little cooler/warmer. What have you guys done?

pex under 16" of sand and concrete!

I am in the process of building a shop and installing radiant heat. So for whatever reason, I neglected to check with my power company to see what incentives they offer for off-peak. Turns out they have a couple options: 1. Short term storage (STS): (see first pic) This consists of a slab with...

    1/2" pex 12" or 9" spacing

I have a 40x88' pole barn up in west central MN. Blue Ridge says 12" spacing with 1/2" pex is sufficient. Just curious if you agree. I plan to keep it cool during the winter (50-60 degrees) for the big shop area, but I'll have a living area, bathroom and woodshop that will probably be a little...

how far from boiler to manifolds?

So I have a pex layout I received from Blue Ridge. They separated my 3 manifolds to be close to their respective zone. My only concern is that the manifolds will not be close in proximity to each other and to the boiler. Do you guys have any suggestions as to how far away the manifolds can be...

    Fiberglass insulation is junk?

So my cousin was telling me recently that he heard that fiberglass insulation was junk. He said that recent research has found that the previous idea of how it would provide an R-value was wrong. He heard this from a professor at Kaplan. I guess the teach is on the state board that sets...

Hi Guys, So I have a 40x88' pole barn that I will be adding radiant heat to. I would like to have 3 zones. 1 zone for a game room and bathroom, 1 zone for wood shop, and 1 zone for the rest which will be storage and mechanics shop. I'm looking for ideas on where to locate the manifold(s) and...

    pex universe

Hi guys, need to buy my pex today because I need to have it by next weekend so I can install it before concrete comes the following week. Pexuniverse.com has the best price. They sell Everhot brand pex-al-pex. From searching it sounds like Everhot pex is really Rifeng. Can anyone confirm this...

To fiber or not to fiber, that is the question

So I have a new 40x88 pole building that went up in June. I've been waiting to do concrete to let the ground settle since I have at least 3 feet of fill/pit run at one end to bring it up to grade. So, I've been researching how I should do my concrete and would like your guys' expert opinion. I...

    Under slab insulation

I have a 40'x88' pole barn which will be finished with 5" concrete throughout with radiant heat tubing. Someone I know builds houses for a living (1-2 man show) and never insulates under the slab when installing radiant heat. He claims that if the ground underneath the slab is dry, that the...
