Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN No temperature fluctuations in my garage. The radiant floor heat system makes sure of that. It would be easily handled though by using an isolation membrane like Schluter Ditra.

Look for Clamptite tools for the modern version of this. Yours is a little different design, but would work in the same fashion. From the looks of it, you could tie fairly heavy guage wire with it.

Rather than a hammer drill, just use a masonry hole saw which will significantly reduce the possibility of cracking the block and will give you a much cleaner hole. That's assuming the blocks are the typical style with the void spaces and those have not been concrete filled.

I extended my garage to the side, but the concept should be similar to what you want to do. Looking at the photo of the house, you could bring the new extension out similar to the wing on the opposite end of the house. Do the roofline the same way tied in perpendicular to the existing garage...
