how many sharpenings can you get out of a chainsaw chain?

Thanks, very informative. Also found this video, which is informative about the importance of getting raker height correct.

how many sharpenings can you get out of a chainsaw chain?

Thanks, will order this depth gauge: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004RA7A?tag=atomicindus08-20 Yep, but you know how it goes, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

how many sharpenings can you get out of a chainsaw chain?

Yes, as mentioned in the OP - "and a flat file to take down the rakers". That does make me wonder - since I don't have a depth guide, maybe the rakers are too tall relative to the cutting edge. I'll have to take a close look at that.

    AC ductwork and dampers

That seems counterintuitive. If my desired temp is 70*F, and I only need half the house cooled instead of the whole house, seems like this should consume less electricity. Is the lack of cost savings because of the upfront cost of the extra equipment required for a damper system, or the higher...

how many sharpenings can you get out of a chainsaw chain?

I have an Oregon Chainsaw Chain (3/8" LP Pitch, .050" Gauge for 14" Bar, 52 Drive Links) that I have sharpened 5x using a chainsaw file and guide (https://www.homedepot.com/p/5-32-in-Chainsaw-File-and-Guide-532FGPC2/315207022) and a flat file to take down the rakers. I waited a long time to do...

Seems like a trip hazard. How do you avoid snagging the raised edge?

    AC ductwork and dampers

This is a good point, but adequately ventilating the roof has made a big difference in this regard. Much less heat soaking and much quicker drop in second floor ceiling temp when sun goes down. Last summer, I found the AC got second floor to desired sleeping temp much quicker than it used to...

    AC ductwork and dampers

I've got an old central air unit (1980s) Ductwork is metal. It's a one zone system. At some point this is going to die or the R22 will escape. I hate the idea of one zone AC because of inefficiency of cooling parts of the house that aren't in use, such as downstairs at night, or upstairs...

Broken Bolt Extraction - Welding on a Nut

Yeah, drilling out an extractor (consumer grade extractors are often high carbon steel) with a hand drill would be miserable.

Fence sections leaning into each other

Checked using 4' level and it agrees with what I saw using 1ft level. Both hinge side posts are leaning toward the gate opening. Both latch side posts are leaning toward the gate opening. Gate opening (distance between the hinge and latch posts) is 48" at the bottom and 46-3/4" at the top. So I...

Fence sections leaning into each other

It's not the gate that is sagging. The hinge side posts lean toward the gate opening and the latch side posts lean toward the gate opening. I checked this with a 1ft level before writing the OP, but I will verify with a 4ft level later today.

Broken Bolt Extraction - Welding on a Nut

OP, this is not an easy weld task for a first time welder. But good thing is you can try over and over. Don't inhale weld fumes, especially since you'll likely be using zinc plated nuts. You could soak the nuts in vinegar to remove the zinc, but realistically, most aren't going to do that for...

Fence sections leaning into each other

The fence predates me, and I don't anything about fences, but there must be a 4x4 post inside the pvc post? So I'd be pushing the 4x4 posts apart, no? I'll remove the top cap and see how far up the 4x4 post sits inside the vinyl post. Maybe 7 years. I've just been tightening the nut on top...

Fence sections leaning into each other

The short section of vinyl fence on the left butts up against neighbors wood fence but is not connected to it. This section and the gate lean toward the section with the gate latch. The section with gate latch is about 3x as long as the section on the left, and butts up against the house, and...

Broken Bolt Extraction - Welding on a Nut

And this is why I hate extractors, especially small diameter extractors. You waste a lot of time drilling to fit the extractor, only to have the extractor snap. As someone suggested earlier, practice with a couple of nuts first. If you use too high settings or move too slowly, you can distort...

    Heavy-Duty Fabric Garden Hose

Interesting point, but the case I'm referring to is 5/8" hose at municipal water pressure feeding an electric PW that can deliver ~1.5GPM at max pressure. The hose can deliver probably 10GPM, so a multiple of what the PW can use, so the collapsible hose cannot be collapsed by the PW pump. If...

    Heavy-Duty Fabric Garden Hose

@MarvinBerry where did you hear that? That doesn't make sense to me. Once the Zero-G hose is pressurized, how is it any different from a rubber garden hose (of the same diameter, say, 5/8") as far as a pressure washer is concerned? Anyone else have thoughts on this? Any Zero-G users who...

Installing garage doors - DIY or hire out?

OP here. Replaced them myself after watching some youtube videos. Given the much bigger projects GJers take on (projects that I wouldn't dare tackle), I'm surprised so many are quick to hire out. I saved well over 50% doing it myself vs hiring out. There's a reason the GD salesman rolled up in a...

Any suggestions on how to bore a hole through the roots?

Tying gutter downspout together with above ground pvc?

Update with pics of existing PVC drain pipe for front downspout. Looks like a 4" x 3" reducing elbow. I think the consensus here is I shouldn't tie a second 2x3 downspout into one 3" pvc drain pipe (pic of roof in post #17). May need to refresh to see all 4 (3 below, and 1 near bottom) pics in...
