Help! School me on power tools

Hey everyone, So my knowledge of hand tools is vast, but power tools... eh, not so much. I’m a weekend warrior and recently picked up a side hustle repairing and modifying gasoline powered golf carts a couple of nights per week. Needless to say, I’m running into more situations where a new...

So... are Meijer and Tekton parting ways?

It has been over three months since the three Meijer locations near me in Cincinnati have restocked Tekton since their 50% off Christmas sale. The tool aisle has been completely bare. I stopped by one of the Meijer’s tonight and found almost a full aisle of this garbage... So I guess it’s...

    Modifying a cheap tool box

I received a Craftsman 1000 series bottom and top chest as a gift for Christmas. The gift was a kind gesture, however the quality of this thing leaves a lot left to be desired. I was worried that it would collapse under its own weight, but so far it’s holding up well... So I’m thinking about...

    Menard’s ditching Craftsman?

I was in Burnsville, MN over the weekend to pick up a car and stopped in a Menard’s. They had no Craftsman tools on display except for the few items left in their clearance section at the other end of the store. The local Menard’s here in Southwest, OH had the same thing going on last week...

    New SK Screwdrivers?

With the demise of Western Forge, I don’t recall if anyone ever discussed who will be making screwdrivers and pliers for SK in the future. Are these possibly it? I ran across them on eBay. I found the country of origin interesting. Thoughts? :dunno: Or are these old news?

    Ace Hardware Stores and Craftsman...

So a couple of years ago before anyone really knew Ace Hardware sold Craftsman, I took a bunch of random trips and scored a lot of NOS USA Made Tools all across the state of OH and KY. I’m on vacation at the moment and the two Ace’s stores I hit are like the ones at home... they’ve all purged...

    Lowe’s Craftsman Wrench Clearance

Surfing Lowe’s website out of boredom, they have a lot of different style wrench sets on clearance including the gunmetal and ratcheting. I’m hoping this is a sign that the “Made in USA with global materials” mechanics tools might be right around the corner!?!

Maybe a dumb question, but going out on a limb here...

Maybe it’s the tequila talking, but with Western Forge closing their doors and Stanley/Craftsman bringing mechanic tool production back to the USA (with global materials)... do you think there’s a possibility that they might buy the tooling from WF to make the Craftsman screwdrivers and pliers...

    Craftsman 282 Pc. Gunmetal Set @ Lowe’s

Hi guys! I’m not sure how long this has been out as I seem to recall the 150 Pc. Gunmetal set to be the largest quantity offering... but Lowe’s now has a 282 Pc. set available for $349.99. There’s some filler in there, but not much. It looks like a fairly comprehensive set. I stopped by Lowe’s...

2 or 3 Drawer Portable Plastic Tool Boxes - Do they still exist?

I’ve been looking high and low for some 2 or 3 drawer, portable tool boxes made of plastic with metal drawers. The last time I found one, it was a Craftsman (made by Waterloo) at Sears. Unfortunately, Waterloo is now owned by Stanley who has quit making them and Sears is long gone. My father...

    Olsa Tools Screwdriver Set

After going back and forth for a few weeks, I decided to order the Olsa Tools 14 Pc. diamond tip screwdriver set on Amazon. $59.99 for a comprehensive set of screwdrivers. They also have a 20 Pc. set for $10 more that comes with 6 precision screwdrivers. The set also came with a really nice...

So what’s the latest with Craftsman?

Last we heard IIRC, they broke ground on their new “USA” facility in Ft. Worth. Does anyone know how far they’ve come with the project and when we might expect to see some sneak peaks of new “USA” tools? The current lineup at Lowe’s is stale, too expensive and poor quality. The brand needs...

    Gearwrench USA Made Pliers?

I apologize if this is old news, but I was just cruising Amazon and noticed a few new pairs of Gearwrench pliers, stamped with their new logo and “U.S.A.”. Are these real?

    Tekton and Meijer

Is Tekton being phased out at Meijer? They had a huge sale before Christmas and haven’t restocked since. There are more empty SKU’s than there are occupied. I’d like to buy a few of the master socket sets and torque wrenches. The four locations near me in Cincinnati, Fairfield and Hamilton, OH...

Is Harbor Freight afraid of extension bars?

I was just cruising Harbor Freight and got a new tool cart. While I was there, I noticed the lack of extension bar choices. We all know Icon hasn’t come out with any yet and I’d be shocked if they did... because anyone who uses sockets certainly doesn’t ever need them, right? But I didn’t see...

    Lowe’s not stocking Craftsman?

With the holidays behind us, I realize that a lot of tools were sold for the holiday season... however, Lowe’s hasn’t been keeping up with restocking a lot of items since well before Christmas. Single screwdrivers, pliers, some wrenches, wrench sets, etc... same SKU’s have been bare going on 4-5...

    Who like Western Forge pliers?

Who likes Western Forge pliers? On a recent trip to Menard’s with the girlfriend, I stumbled upon more tools in their electrical department upstairs. I found 4 different pairs of Ideal pliers made by Western Forge. Linesman, long nose, diagonal and bent diagonal. It wasn’t hard to mistake them...

    Sk lp90

I have an SK LP90 3/8” drive ratchet, part #80200. I’ve used it a handful of times and it’s a really nice ratchet, but it sounds/feels a little “crunchy”, almost like it might not be lubricated. I’m wondering that in the event it needs lubricated upon opening it up, what would be the best...

    Anyone else like Crescent Tools?

Just picked up these long nose Crescent pliers from Home Depot. It appears they have changed the handle color from red to orange and the packaging has been updated. I feel like it was a pretty good deal for $16. They also had a pair of Crescent linesman pliers I’m going back to get this week to...
