    insulating with soffit/ridge vent

Thanks for the comments Rich. I appreciate it. I was wondering about the top plate deal. I did reduce the thickness in this area, but only covered about half of the 2x4 top plate because I wanted to make sure I didn't interfere with the venting. I may have to redo these pieces.

Install Big Maxx heater before drywall?

The install looks nice and clean. I would definitely open the gap up at the B vent pipe. There are some pics of my install in this thread: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122873 I wanted to put my gas line in the wall but was worried about possibly developing a leak, so I put...

    insulating with soffit/ridge vent

Looks like it will take more than 1 plastic vent in the roof. What I did was cut one in half and added it to the 1st one. What is the consensus on stapling batt insulation. Directly to the joist or on the side, or does it matter? I started a row stapling directly to the joist and wondered if it...

    insulating with soffit/ridge vent

Thank for the replies guys. I think I will only need one to two pieces per truss. I'm planning on using R-30 batts, John Manville Comfort Therm from Lowes. For some reason Lowes doesn't stock the R-30 with the vapor barrier so I will have to special order it. I do have another question. The...

    insulating with soffit/ridge vent

This seems like it should be easy. I have scissor trusses in my garage with vented soffits and a ridge vent at the top. I was planning on using something like this from Lowe's...

My Mr Heater Bigg Maxx Install

If memory serves me right my unit the 75k ones draws around 5A. I actually put the heater and a receptacle that my 12k BTU window unit plugs into on the same circuit. I also used a switch with a pilot light to switch the receptacle that the heater plugs into. This way I can run my ac and know...

My Mr Heater Bigg Maxx Install

Thats some great install pics above. I believe Im going to go ahead and install the vibration adapters. The other day, I was leaning against the wall and could feel the vibrations of the heater resonating through the structure. I also need to measure the current of the t-stat, so that I can...

My Mr Heater Bigg Maxx Install

I struggle with my decision if i should use a plug or hardware it with a piece of flex. The plug just makes it quicker if you ever need to take it down. I used a twist lock plug and recepticle since I was plugging the unit in overhead. Its probably overkill, but I felt better doing it this way...

My Mr Heater Bigg Maxx Install

I do have a regulator at the tank. I purchased it at lowes. I think its rated up to about 100k btu's, but would have to check. My unit is about 9.5-10 ft from the floor. The air is really warm at floor level depending on how I adjust the louvers. I have not had enough time to use it to comment...

My Mr Heater Bigg Maxx Install

I received the parts I was waiting on: New t stat: And 3m high temp tape that I used to wrap the joints. I wrapped the joint between the double and single wall pipe that I know was a requirement. I also added a wrap around the slip joints of the adjustable 90. Not sure if that was required...

TV size and location in garage?

I have a 40 in mine. Its a really good size for the garage. I use it alot for the music stations. It also has a LAN connection that I plan to wire to stream music. Sometimes I like to have the news on. Comes in great for instructional DVDs. I'm also in the process of installing a CCTV system and...

    lights for my garage

I'm getting close to needing to purchase some lights for the garage. The main section is 20ft wide by 24ft deep. The ceilings are 11-13ft on scissor trusses. I plan to perform detail work in this area, and I'm getting old, so the more light the better. I have ran a few of my feeder wires for 3...

    Venting Unit Heater

What brand name / model of heater are you installing. I purchased a Mr heater horizontal kit and then found out that I would have to go through the roof due to clearance issues. I was able to still use most parts, but I also went to Lowe's for any extras. If I had it to do over again, I would...
