How can I get those gorgeous airplane curves?

I just bought a 2003 Harley Davidson VROD, 100th Anniversary Edition. For those of you that haven't seen one, check it out here: Being that I have a daughter with special needs, I would love to be able to take her along cruising now and then. She's got a pretty specialized car seat, so that...

I have a question about flexible shaft for die grinders...

Thanks to my line of work, my angle and die grinder are lovely Metabo units. Don't worry, they didn't walk off a job site -- one of the companies I was working for this summer upgraded from the locking type switch to paddles on both types of grinders, so when these needed rebuilt, I got them and...

    Pitted anvil surface?

One of my buddies brothers has an anvil. 125 pound Trenton. Unfortunately, the striking surface is pitted: I'm wondering if it's salvageable, given the pitting?

Need help cutting aluminum sheet -- design project

So back in college, I splurged on a MacBook -- the one with the white polycarbonate shell. My experience with CRAPple Care (2 x repairs, and one time it came back with a dead battery that Apple refused to replace -- looking like it had been thrown across a room) leaves a bad taste in my mouth...

    Lincoln Viking auto-darkening interchangability

So after checking out Lincoln's Viking auto-darkening helmets, I pulled the trigger on a new 3350 Series 2. As it turns out, the ADF cartridge from the 3350 will also fit the 2450 shell. I have also confirmed this via email with Lincoln Electric. This opens up quite a few more options when it...

    First time arc welding

Be prepared for crappy welds. Today, I mainly practiced striking and maintaining an arc, and starting to get a feel for where I needed to keep the rod. The Setup: 75 amps, electrode+ mode = cc stick soft arc control = 0, arc start = 3 6010 rods, 1/2" plate The Station: The Welds...

    WTB: small metal shaper (Atlas)

I'm looking for an Atlas 7A or 7B metal shaper for my workshop so that I can craft some much needed parts for my daughters wheelchair and such. Occasionally, I hear about people sending these off for scrap, but I'll gladly drop some coin for one -- just don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

So I got brave and tried stick welding a sundial

Being that Im out of work at the moment, I decided to take my neighbor up on some stick welding lessons. I came to two realizations today: 1.) a beautiful weld is indescribably so 2.) ZTfab is superhuman So, with that said, I had some scrap metal to tinker with, so I built a sundial...

So I want to learn to paint vehicles.. the right way...

I've got a 2006 Chevy Silverado -- it's been wrecked before, but fixed, and has collected a few dents along the way because it's a truck and I use it for truck-ish things. I made the mistake of going through a touchless car wash, which pealed some clear on the passenger side door. I plan on...

    Nerf Bars?

Have any of you guys ever fabricated your own nerf bars? I want some for my truck, but they're all very... crappy looking. I've got a welder, and I'm stupid enough to believe I can do it. What say you?

    Wheelchair Swings

So I'm embarking on the Amazing Workshop's latest endeavor -- designing some handicapped swings for local playgrounds and parks, as part of an outreach program by a local Autism group. These damned swings are pretty pricey, but I think I can build it much cheaper: Has anyone ever tried...

How the #$@# do I get this knob off of my Lincoln Pro-Core 10?

So I've got a new face plate for my Pro-Core 100, and I got the top knob off by removing a set screw. However, the bottom knob doesn't seem to have a set screw. It's got a knotch in the back of the knob, but it just appears to be a pocket. Ideas?

Looking for advice on a MIG welder...

While I won't be welding Russian fighter jets together, I will be welding sheet and tubing. I'll likely be buying used since I can't afford to drop a grand or so at the moment (vehicle replacement is a slightly bigger problem for now). :3gears: Ideas? I'm thinking something like a Lincoln...

Help! I've got an arbor nut stuck on my bench grinder.

I picked up a Craftsman 1/3rd HP "block" bench grinder (397.19580) at a flea market for $10. In the process of tearing it down, I could get one arbor nut free or the other. In the process, I stupidly managed to get both grinder wheels off, but now I've got a lone arbor nut stuck on the spindle...

    Behold! The Crescent Universal Wood-Worker

Stumbled across it while looking for old power tools. Managed to find an unrestored (but working) one on CL for anyone interested in owning one of these gems: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/tls/2962079849.html Sure, it's $800 - but there are several thousand pound of cast in this thing, so...

Someone please buy this.... (vintage drill press)

This isn't my listing, but I stumbled across it while looking for a drill press. It's in Washington D.C. or thereabout, and I've got no way to get it to Ohio - otherwise I'd already have it. :drool...

What did you buy with your $10 in Sears SMWR Cash?

I couldn't find anything I wanted in stock at my local "hometown store" (I know they have it, but they never update their stock). With that said, while I wanted to order a 21mm and a 22mm 6-pt 1/2 drive socket to finish out my 6 points, they weren't available without being shipped (or without...
